Favorite Non S & W Handgun?

Walther P.38

Just a plain old fun pistol to shoot.

Not smart enough to post pics, but here goes:

Revolver: my Hamilton Bowen five shot Redhawk in 45 Colt
Semi: my Kimber Ultra Carry II in 45 ACP, of course.

your new service is going to feel bad, you didnt even introduce it with the rest of the gang:) looks like a nice one too!

The OP asked for one gun as a favorite and no doubt I have others that would fit in the group as well but didn't want to get carried away. . . . Three of these were group pictures I had on photobucket.

The Colt New Service is ex NWMP in 45 Colt, received 1919.

A tough question, 3 possible choices:

Most favorite is probably the gun I wear to work every day and most days off work, a stainless lightweight Colt Commander in .45 ACP, bought in 1997 to replace a very similar Colt Custom Carry Commander I'd bought 6 years before, and which had the forward portion of the slide snap off while shooting a qualification. The newer Commander has saved my life, and greatly altered a few others' lives.

If not the Commander, the favorite would be a Colt New Frontier single action revolver, 4-3/4 inch barrel, blue and case hardened finish, .44 Special chambering, to which I had Colt fit an auxiliary .44-40 Winchester cylinder. Walnut stocks, but someday I'll have ivory stocks installed.

The third possible non-S&W favorite is also a Colt product, an Official Police double action revolver with a 6 inch barrel, blue finish, checked wood stocks, chambered for .22 L.R. My dad's grandfather and my dad were finish carpenters, cabinet makers, Dad apprenticing under Granddad. This was in the 1945-47 era, when even in new housing subdivisions, pent-up war demand for consumer goods still caused many homes to have no telephone as yet. My Dad and his Dad were working out of town during the week building new churches, and came back home on weekends. Mom had just given birth to my oldest sister. A peeping Tom soon found out Mom and baby were home alone at night without a phone and began to frighten them as Mom got ready for bed. He got bold, knocking on the glass, scratching on the screens with his fingernails. Mom screamed, her neighbors would come but they never caught the peeper.

After a week or two of this, Mom told Dad and Granddad about it. Gramps went into another room and came back with a brand new Colt Official Police double action revolver chambered for the .22 LR round, and a handful of cartridges. He showed her how it worked.

A week later, the menfolk were again out of town, it was evening, and as Mom got ready for bed, the peeper returned. She screamed. He laughed and knocked on the glass. She grabbed the Colt and pointed it at him, and yelled for her neighbors. He laughed more loudly and clawed at the window screen. She pointed the Colt at the window with both hands and screamed and emptied the Colt through the glass at him. A neighbor with a phone called the police. Upon their arrival, the peeper could not be found, but they did locate a significant blood trail from the area of the window, which went up the driveway to the street, where it ended, possibly as the peeper then left in a car. She got him at least once, was the consensus. The officer conducting the investigation summed it up by telling my mother, "Lady, you gotta be careful wid dat ting."

All three favorites, all three Colts, all different reasons for favor.

IZH 35M match .22 target pistol. It will eat any ammo, and hold the X ring. 5 way adjustable trigger is fantastic. Will shoot along side any S&W 41 or other high grade 22 target pistol.

Pic needs updating, as the grips have been redone a couple times since this was taken.

By "favorite", I assume you mean only ONE. Indeed, a difficult task, but playing by the rules, it would have to be my H&K P-7 PSP. It was on my grail gun list moments after I first read about it in some gun magazine in the late 1970s. Finally, many years later, I was able to buy one of the West German turn ins. It was worth the wait. It shoots like a dream and is obscure enough that it takes someone who really knows guns to know what it is. I used it to qualify for my CHL, and then again for re-qualification just to vex the range master - I was successful in that, and I also shot a perfect score on both occasions.

Regards,

Dave

I just can't do it this way.
I would not own any gun I would not take on the street.
I like Sigs for pure dependability and accuracy.
The 1911's I own have all had bench time at a Smiths and they are battleworthy.
Even most of my S&W's have had bench time.
I have a Norinco of a tank 1911 that would follow anybody to hell and get them out if they were good enough.
I don't are what anybody says about hurting the value---they are tools to help me thru the night.
Blessings

My Favorite Non S&W

My Para P-14 1911 45. Smoothest Trigger, Very Very Accurate.

Ruger .41 Mag - Old Model Blackhawk, 4 5/8" barrel. Waited from around 1964 to 1997 to buy one. Decided that waiting another 33 years was not in my best interests!

Kind gentleman on this forum sold me his handmade western style straight drop hip holster for it. Their patinas match just fine.

Dyson

H&K USP 45 full size. Everything I need in a .45 and nothing I don't. Regards 18DAI

Dan Wesson.... at least half the name is right, lol Gp100 3" or any ruger for that matter

I too like my Taurus 24-7 gen 2 9mm.
My back up is a model 19 357 mag. Oops that's a S & W. Ok my second choice would be the Glock 21 45ACP. May the S & W Gods forgive me. Lol

OK, I'll play...

Colt Officer that has had a little work done by Wilson, and a Ruger SP101 snub in .357 that has an Ionbond DLC applied. Two I rarely shoot but dearly love are the Python and Anaconda.
