My Henry AR-7 Survival Rifle. I actually got it for this exact reason, and it has exceeded my expectations. People at the Club who have not seen one before think its cool, so its a conversation starter, more importantly it is an absolute joy to shoot. The fact it shoots 22 LR which is cheap and plentiful only adds to my enjoyment of this cool rifle. While I am sure it could be a Survival Rifle in a pinch, I think of it as a range gun and training tool for my girls that happens to be able to hunt small game if the need arose.

Favorite, always the latest acquisition. After that it depends on indoor or outdoor, or if I am working on a particular skill. Right now I am shooting my 19 combat carry, 27-2 and my the only semi auto I have left-a Springfield 1911 in 9mm. If I had to pick one it would probably be the 1911. Glad I don’t have to choose.

In the summer I meet up with some people on Monday to shoot big bore black powder cartridge guns. I started with a 45-70 Trapdoor carbine, then got an Italian made 45-70 Sharps, but will be picking up a Shilo Sharps after the job I am on is over. Tuesday night I go shoot hand guns with the organizer laying out the course. I am the only revolver guy and bring a couple different ones every time. The range is just an easy 5 miles from my door and as I have a key to the gate. I often get a wild hair to shoot something and I load up what ever it is and am there in 15 minutes. Hard to pick a favorite range gun.

Favorite - hard to have just one.

Love shooting the old Remington 722 in .222. 26" barrel dressed up with a Stockys thumbhole stock, pushing the 53 grain Nosler Varmegedans out at 100 yards, trying for the perfect bug hole.

For me, it is not about how many rounds I can launch but how small a hole I can make. I keep telling myself, If I can count the holes I screwed up, since there should only be one ragged hole.

For .22 it's a pair of autos. I rotate between a 7" S&W 22a-1 and a High Standard 10-X. I should have a Model 17 but haven't run into one that I thought was the right deal.

For .38 it's either a 6" Model 14, or a 6" Model 66. I shoot that caliber the most and rotate between them.

Then when I feel like a big bore it's a 6" Model 657. It rotates with the .38's.

I have some other guns I bring out only occasionally, just for something different. Or at times I'll pull one out and shoot it for a couple of months, then it goes back for a longer period of time. These include a Ruger Blackhawk and a pair of 1911s, one in 9mm and one in .45. But they are not my favorites.

I generally shoot 50-100 rounds with one of the .22s, then 100-150 rounds of centerfire with one of the 6" revolvers. Always at 15 yards.

Whatever the family wants to shoot next honestly. Im getting at the point where teaching skills is more important than learning new skills. So, the 22’s, 380’s and 38’s for me in general.
Personally its been 45 and 12 ga. for myself

Dare Co Shooting Complex in Dare Co near Manteo, NC is the best range that I’ve ever been to. They have a live on site caretaker, dedicated sized berms for rifle, pistol, a short range berm and a skeet range. Covered shooting positions and benches. Has real men and women's bathrooms, a clubhouse, a pavilion for outside eating events It’s kept clean too. I wish I lived closer but at 2.25 hrs away I only go to my cas clubs monthly shoots there. We have our own berm that we share with local law enforcement. We also have a shed that we built in the berm for our steel and props. They have a variety of clubs and disciplines that shoot there. As to what I shoot there, my cas club is a SASS/WASA club so we shoot single, double actions, self loaders, BAMM and Wild Bunch. CAS shooters can always compete no mater what unusual match is scheduled. A very progressive cowboy club.
