I've been trying to find a value for insurance purposes for the above, which I was fortunate enough to purchase when S&W came out with them. Mine is actually engraved with my credential number, so not sure what that does to the value.

Gun goes to my youngest daughter, eventually, as she's the only one of our offspring involved in law enforcement.

BTW; we are grieving terribly as a community here in Maryland, particularly in Harford County, where I live, because of the senseless murder of two of our fine Deputy Sheriffs. The older was my bailiff in District Court for a number of years: you couldn't find a finger example of law enforcement.

I personally have never heard of a FBI Commemorative model 29 produced during the -9 engineering revision.

Are you certain that is what you have?

You might want to post photos.

This^^^^^^. The most important unwritten rule of firearm forum etiquette is - POST PICS OR IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AND DOESN'T EXIST!;)

Plus it makes it a lot easier for folks to answer questions and give advice. And a lot of us are like children, we do better with pictures and visual cues than big words.:D

Commemorative M29's are funny. You see them for sale in the $1200 to $1500 range (they don't sell too fast) then you find one at your LGS for $600. For insurance purposes I would go with the high number which can be verified pretty easily.

In the mid 1980s S&W produced some FBI commemorative 5" Model 27 in wooden display box. It's been a few years since I've seen one for sale but they were being priced in the $1500-$2000 range.

I've got the FBI 100 year commemorative Glock 22 and the FBI commemorative Remington 870. I really need to find the commemorative Model 27...commemorates 50 years of FBI Agents being authorized to carry firearms (1934-1984). The Glock was the 100 year anniversary of the FBI (1908-2008). Can't remember the 870 reason, maybe 50 years of service with the FBI (1964-2014)?

FBI Commemorative

I looked again at the model #, and it appears it could be 27-3, not 29-9, as I posted previously. Needed a magnifying glass to see it!
Pics may help, I hope!

Nice gun. Its definitely a 27-3, made in 1984. That was six years before I came into the Bureau, but I found one on this very site. I have the 2008 Glock, but I passed on the 870.

I'd say for insurance purposes its worth at least a grand, maybe more. Mine is going to my oldest boy. I'll get the plate on the front engraved from me to him.
