For the only time in my life I can remember, I got a phone call this afternoon from a political pollster. The woman asked the sort of questions you’d expect about my candidate and party preferences, my age, race, and educational level, plus quite a few questions about what news I watched on TV, also what internet social media I used - Facebook, YouTube, X, etc. No questions about forums. No attempts to push any political agenda. Didn’t ask my name. She said who she was with, but I didn’t recognize it.

Has anyone else ever received a similar pollster call?

I've been getting poling calls for a few months. I have a side business so I have to take the calls on the business cell.

On my personal cell, I've not only been getting calls for months, but I've also been getting texts for polls and donations from the party I'm registered with. I also got a voice mail recording from the opposition party.

This call wasn’t labeled as being a scam. Otherwise I would not have answered. It showed as coming from Houston, but that doesn’t mean anything. No questions about my bank account, SSN, credit card, or any other red flags which would have prompted me to hang up. Appeared to be a legitimate poll call. I tried to trace the phone number back, but could not find it listed as being a known scam number. Tried calling the number back, nothing happened. No ring, nothing. Probably set to block all incoming calls to that number.

Polling hasn’t been very accurate since cell phones and not answering cold calls and texts became the norm

That brings up an interesting question. How are political polls done today, given that many cell phone users don’t answer an unknown number?

Remember the Truman-Dewey upset in the 1948 presidential election? The reason given why the polls were so wrong was that the polls were done by phone calls. Only problem with that was that many more Republicans had phones than Democrats.
