George Bush 41 Victory model

I was at the George Bush 41 Presidential Museum last month and saw this Victory on display. I can't recall if it was labeled as being his, or actually being donated by a friend as representative of what he would have carried in WW2. It was interesting either way.

I've been to three presidential museums thus far (Bush 41, Reagan, Nixon), and they've all had guns on display. Love it! I'm going to go to them all eventually, so hopefully that trend holds up.

After Bush 41 was shot down, he was rescued by an American sub. When he left the sub, he gave his Victory .38 to the officer that he had to "hot bunk" with.

As of a few years ago, the gun given the submarine officer was still in his family. He had offered it back to Bush years ago, but Bush declined.

It was reported that Barbara Bush disliked handguns and had dictated that the President not have any. He did have very expensive double-barreled shotguns, for hunting.

Whether this is the Bush Navy gun, I can't say.The family of the sub officer may have donated it after George. H. W. Bush's death. Or, it may be the same model donated by someone else..

The real item looked to be in about this shape when last shown in public. It had obviously received excellent care.

I remember reading about that a few years ago and it seems like the gun was donated to a museum somewhere in New England: but I have slept since then. lee
