I am looking for a gunsmith to restore a pre-64 Winchester, who can recreate authentic wood and metal finishes. Doug Turnbull is out of my price range. Know of anyone?

Turnbull does do the best work, but you are correct that he is very expensive; although I personally feel he is in a class by himself. You can try Mid West Gun Works. They do nice work, have a reasonable turn around time, and have always been responsive and helpful over the phone. I sent them an old Browning A-5 shotgun for restoration and they did a beautiful job in a reasonable amount of time that was within my budget. Give them a shout.
