How Many Defensive Guns You Carry?

I gave a semi-flippant answer to the original question, which I evidently interpreted incorrectly (as did lots of others). I have many guns that I could rely upon for defensive carry, and have carried literally dozens of different ones over the years, mostly 1911-pattern pistols, but also Glocks, Kahrs, revolvers by Smith, Colt and Ruger, and even a few Sigs several years ago. Nowadays, my primary carry piece is usually a 9x23-converted Kimber Ultra-Aegis, backed up by a 342Ti, Ruger LCR, Colt Magnum Carry, or other snubby .38 or .357. I sometimes switch out the Ultra Aegis for a 5" 9x23 Aegis or a 9x23-converted Colt XSE Commander.

I don't see the need for more than one firearm for protection.

If you're ever in a crisis situation and your 9mm jams, you'll wish you had a .38 snubbie for back-up.

When/if it all comes down, I'll never feel over-gunned.

My every day carry is a S&W M60, 1 7/8", round butt with Pachmeyer Compact Professional grips.

Next is an identical S&W M36, 1 7/8", Crimson Trace.

These are everyday, right front pocket carry.

On occasion I will carry a Beretta 92SF, Ruger KP95DC 9mm or a Ruger KP97DC 45ACP. These are always carried in a shoulder rig.

I cycle between four. S&W Model 60 2in, GSR 1911 Sig Commander RCS, Officer Kimber CDP Ultra Carry II, and a P229 in 40 S&W. I only carry one at a time with 2 spare mags or a quick loader.

Three guns. A S&W Model 649 Bodyguard, A SigSauer, P232S and I just picked up a 2nd S&W Model 60 Chiefs Special to carry. My other Model 60 is fully engraved. Love them all. Also my P229 two tone is just a looker. Going on 14 years looking at it. Just can`t seem to shoot it.

Just one. Carry a G19 6 months out of the year, a 637 AW the other six ;)

I generally carry one. I do have one reoccurring situation where I tote two.

While I have lots of handguns that would be excellent for concealed carry I return to the same few.

Smith & Wesson Model 10 HB 4-inch
Smith & Wesson Model 10 2-inch
Colt Detective Special

I hold my nose and carry a Kel Tec P3AT when I can't contrive to carry something larger.

Will probably put the Colt 1911 .45 back to work some after it returns from the gunsmith.

Just one. I don't go looking for trouble but if it finds me , one will do :)

Unless that hand is disabled, tied up, or the weapon is hit by gunfire. Don't think of this as a flame, but food for thought. IIRC, about half of the participants in the 1986 Miami shootout lost the use of one of their hands, and at least three of them made use of a second gun. While that incident may have been beyond the ordinary. It is not uncommon for guns and gun hands to be hit. I don't make a practice of beating up people who CCW. They make their decisions and they, not I, have to live with those choices. God bless, stick around and consider the benefits of carrying more than one.

If I am out and about in my "low crime" city, I normally just carry one. Normally a Glock 23 with two reloads. If I go into Los Angeles I usually carry two, second gun is a Glock 27, and an additional magazine.

I don't recall ever having anyone tell me after they had to us deadly force, that they felt they were carrying too many guns or too much ammo!

I don't see any problem in carrying more than one gun. It's the individual's choice.

I don't see any reason to disparage someone who chooses to carry two or more revolvers to get to the same capacity that another individual has in a semi-auto with a 17 round mag.

Is one person perfectly reasonable and the other a nut? I don't think so.

Usually a model 36 or 37 both with bobbed hammers. Sometimes a Colt Mustang or Beretta Tomcat.
Rarely a 686 plus, Model 66 or three inch 629.

I carry one and sometimes with a reload.
