I hate Squirrels

...I'm sorry...but that was the best laugh I've had all day...thank you...

Squirrels are a nice culinary experience. Fry them with lard in a deep skillet, make gravy in the pan with the leavings. Serve with mashed taters and green beans cooked in a pot after you've cooked the fat off the bacon.

I killed lots of them, Dad loved eating anything that was not bought with money. Mom was a great cook.

There weren't many squirrels close to the house.

I once rented a house that squirrels had chewed a nice hole in the soffett to set up home in the attic.

Land lord would not pay a professional, the city did not trap squirrels. I took a 22 cal German RWS air gun, a thermos of coffee, my lawn chair and set up shop before daylight. I killed 14 or 15. I had asked the PD Chief and had his blessings.

I nailed up a Folgers coffee can end over the hole, painted it white and deducted it from my rent.

There was a time back in history where squirrels feared my Brother's and my name. Most were done in by cheap old Western Auto Revelation ammo.

I usually do a fried squirrel dinner once a year, but it has not been several years. The next time I'm going to marionate them in something. Perhaps Chicago Steak seasoning.

Do any of you remember cutting a forked tree limb and inserting thru a slit you made in the squirrels back leg to make carrying them easier. Thru the belt allowed the ticks and fleas to go straight up your body.

I have never shot any animal... but now that I am properly armed and educated by all the damage they do, I am guessing a squirrel may be my first kill. Husband and I have our "one day not soon" retirement cabin up in the North Carolina mountains. We have about 6 beautiful apple trees that would be loaded wth apple one weekend and empty when we returned 2 week ends later. Could not ever figure it out until this post!!

We kept our RV at my late MILs house. I get a panicked call "I smell gas", bust butt over there and sure enough, rub marks on the gas line. Till I took it off and realized those rub marks were teeth marks!!! Wrapped the new line with aluminum duct tape and a plastic wire loom. No more issues.

I had wood rats take up residence in my pick up, after the county did some clearing of drainage outfall ditches. They chewed the battery positive terminal boot, the washer fluid hose, the leads to a valve positioning sensor, and part way through a 120V house extension cord that was powering an on-board battery charger.

Turns out EPA mandated more 'biodegradability' of autos a few years back, and manufacturers came up with the idea of making wiring insulation from a soy base, instead of traditional petroleum bases--which makes a lot of plastic automotive insulation FOOD, for rodents.

Don't have a problem with them around here...unless the freezer gets full. The best way I've found to tenderize them is with a crock pot. Mom used to use a pressure cooker but I prefer them slow cooked in gravy and served over biscuits or rice. I do this at least two or three times each year. The season just opened. It won't be long.

Seen a house burn down when I was a kid cause they got into the attic and chewed the wiring.

Had a house here in town burn down just last week because the owner went out shopping and left a pot of grease on a stove that was turned on.
