I know it's ugly, but it is a PRE 29 4 screw with cokes

Now, that's a well-oiled beauty. I have to wonder how on Earth they managed to get the finish so evenly worn off. It's almost like they scrubbed it with fine steel-wool. But, that's beside the point. It is one remarkable shooter at a very nice price. In few years you can sell those grips for more than you paid for the gun! Have fun with it

Pre. Mod. 29 4 screw

john145, as bare as it is of finish it is a real jewel, the kind that can be carried whenever you travel in the woods and not worry as to its finish, can be shot and not devalued in the least and one you can be proud of. This is my kind of revolver, so ugly that its actually very attractive! Take the Cokes off and have them restored then fit some rubber for shooting and enjoy it! I can already see the big grin on your face.

Definitely stripped - it is now ready for a fine polishing - then some beautiful but tastefully clean engraving - then a re-blue.

That is what I cal a blank canvas. Good luck and keep us posted with your progress.

Thanks for sharing,

As others have said, you got yourself a real bargain. I'd store the Cokes and put some Goodyear on for range use. It could be polished to a mirror finish then kept in the white for quite the showpiece!

I doubt the previous owner set out to leave it as is, but I was reading just the other day of the firearm condition known as "browning"...More often seen on rifles and shotguns it seems, but apparently,if the article can be believed, once the rusting condition has reached the brown stage, just regular oiling and care will prevent any further deterioration of the surface. As others mentioned, I kinda like it.

Rog8732: Browning is a generic term that the British use for either a brown rust or blue finish. Rust bluing starts with normal brown or red rust, which is then boiled or steamed to change it to a black oxide. This gun would be an excellent candidate for a rust blue finish. Rust bluing is durable and can be easily done at home with very little equipment. No power equipment is required
as hand sanding with 420 grit paper is all that is needed. An iron or steel container to boil in on a camp stove, and some degreased extra fine steel woll completes the equipment. Brownells sells rust bluing solution, and the solutions come with directions for preparation and use.
