In the movies, "you're damn right I am, and if you keep messing with me you're gonna find just how dangerous!" but in reality you handled it very maturely but I still would've asked to speak with the supervisor because as stated before your CCP is much more proof of identification!

I suspect that like too many government employees he resented actually having to deal with the public. Also you'd be suprised how many government policies are made up on the spot.
I would have asked him if he took a double dose of Stupid Pills before breakfast this morning. But on second thought you handled it right.

I would probably have asked him if stupidity was painful and then informed him I wanted to speak with his supervisor.

You might have replied Pardon? This proves I have passed a background check with 14 state and federal agencies, as well as it being a state issued card. Of course it's easy to come up with that as I sit back and in

I am a government employee and hate that I'm too often lumped into the same catergory as jerks like this. I consider it my job to serve the public and don't resent dealing with them at all. This guy should be reprimanded, or at least educated.

I learned a real good answer/question to respond to dumb folks with a little power . . . and less smarts . . .
"I'M SURE YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD REASON FOR __________,
WOULD YOU MIND TELLING ME WHAT IT IS?" Then, give them a friendly, silent, questioning smile and don't say a thing. The ball is in their court and you've turned the tables so that THEY have to answer YOU with "LOGIC."
Many times, they'll stop . . . look puzzled, and say, "You know, I don't know why we can't do that, let me find out."
If they don't say this, then ask for their supervisor . . . and ask, "I'M SURE YOU HAVE A VERY GOOD REASON FOR __________________, WOULD YOU MIND TELLING ME WHAT IT IS?
A friend of mine recently did this at our local county tax collector's office and . . . they entire department suddenly realized that they really didn't have a good reason to deny his request . . . and they then re-wrote the policy!
This works VERY well in disarming bureaucrats who fail to think things out.

When I got laid off in Tennessee. I could sign up on the internet or by telephone. I did it on the net. I never went to an office. Right after that I retired and am enjoying it. I don't know how I found the time to work???
