IDEA: Distributor-Like Revolver Group Buy???

Doing something this unique I feel would be best in a rare caliber, 10mm N frame 8 shot moon clipped sounds rarefied enough.

OP Here:
Is there some consensus as to who the expert is on the forum, or at least an expert who would be interested in this group buy. I am far from a S&W revolver expert. I am thinking maybe I could PM this person with my phone number and speak over the weekend to make sure I include all important topics and variables in the polls. Don't be shy, some please step up. Thanks.

I would be in but if you are gonna require a deposit to vote, you would have to narrow the selection. This way people who wanted in would at least have a general idea of what all the specifics could be before plunking down money.

Seems like several members have an interest in a 3" L Frame. As an FYI, Talo has a current offering for a 3" 686 RB:

Smith and Wesson model 686 Deluxe Talo Exclusive: Product description: SKU:150713 Model: 686 Deluxe Caliber: .357 Magnum® .38 S&W Special +P Capacity: 7 Rounds Action: Single/Double Action Barrel Length: 3" / 7.6 cm Front Sight: Red Ramp Rear Sight: Adjustable White Outline Overall Length: 8-3/16" Weight: 36.8 oz. Grip: Textured Wood Frame Material: Stainless Steel Cylinder Material: Stainless Steel Finish: Satin Stainless

They are also offering the 686 in 5" and 7" versions. They do have the Hillary hole, if that matters.

Good luck with the poll.

I'd like a reissue of the M-53 Jet, but chambered in 218 Bee. The Bee's straighter case walls would not set back and bind the cylinder, like the sharply tapered Jet is prone to.

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'd put down money on any N-Frame. I like the idea of a 3" Model 25 in .45 ACP. I would even go for an L-Frame, but K-Frames just aren't my cup of tea. Heck, I might buy one anyway though...my son will need one in about 15 years! :)

I'd have no problem putting down the $100 and whatever was the most popular vote buying. We won't all get what we are wanting, but you can be assured of a good quality firearm, that is unique.

Yoda in post 28 hit most of my thoughts...

- 3" K frame
- 357 Mag
- Combat grips on a round butt
- Oh yea, no lock

I think we will find this is like a consensus on engine oils or the long running debate between blondes, brunettes, and redheads... Good luck herding us cats into one corner!

Love the concept and as a new devotee of S&W not too picky about which model is chosen; although .357 in 3" would be what I would most like to have as it provides the most flexibility in terms of what I like to shoot and can reload.

Count me as a "definite interested" and anxious to vote on a particular selection.

colt forum is trying to do this. think they finally settled on a gun and about have of the people backed out. don't know after that. agreeing on a single model, with the characteristics all want will be a problem. what if smith says no guns without lock, no forged parts, then what. asking some to put up money before voting on his favorite is almost extortion if he can't get his money back if he doesn't like the decision on model.

There's a simple solution to that. Don't put up the money and you don't get a vote. Once the votes are in and it's established exactly what gun will be made, I'm sure you'll have an option to place an order. The only thing I'd be slightly concerned about is S&W being able to make a gun with no lock. I'm sure they will, but maybe that is something that can be asked about before the voting starts.

if we are actually serious about doing this I would check with S&W to see what our limitations would be so we have some confines to work from (which I am sure there will be)

No sense in making recommendations that aren't currently possible

Younggun22 makes a good point.......

Is there anyone monitoring this Forum for S&W?

I know Hogue has folks on several Forums.....

The ideas put forth so far range from the "highly sought after" ( like 3inch K frames) to what I would classify as nitch guns (great guns; but never big sellers for S&W like 10mm or .45acp revolvers).............

IMHO if we can do this we should look for a "gun" that will draw the broadest interest ......... if the idea works the first time a distributor will be more likely to work on "small batch" requests.

Caliber seems like .357mag would be good as it would meet the needs of those that want a magnum and those that will only shoot .38s

Barrel length 3 to 4 inch seem to be the best "general purpose" length.

Frame K,L,N ....... tough call

6,7,8 shot?.......... I would say 6 shots is the classic in K,L,N frame revolvers.

Questions for Smith......... are we limited to round butt, MIM, the lock and the "new hammer"?

Sounds awesome to me.

As Qball noted, not only would a lump sum payment be required before they start, but I suspect they're not only going to require an FFL, but an established distributor.

SWCA might be able to pull it off. I know RCA used to get special runs for members.

Perhaps when a serial range is nailed down potential buyers could reserve their preferred serial IE SWF 0001, SWF 1234 etc bwith the confirmed deposit on a FC FS basis.

That being said my preference would be a Non IL K frame that has not been produced in 22 Lr like a SS 4" SB Model 64 tapered barrel copy or if SB frames are not an option a 3" Model 66 look alike in .22lr with shrouded ejector rod.

I would be interested in almost any group buy BUT only IF we could get them to drop the internal lock.

Count me in also. As long as there is no lock... All my other S&W's are P&R so that would be awesome if that would be possible but probably not realistic:(.
It sounds like K/L frame in 357 would be most realistic and actually able to get to a high enough number of people to participate...
It would be awesome to get some sort of special "SWF" engraving on the barrel to go along with the unique serial number.
