IDEA: Distributor-Like Revolver Group Buy???

I kind of like the idea of having to pay $100 up front to vote in the polls, it would keep the people out that aren't really interested in buying and just want to play. Those votes would effect the outcome and the actual buyers could end up with a gun that was partially chosen by those who just wanted to give an opinion and not lay down cash.

Interesting plan.

We will all just vote on the polls mentioned above, and if you don't get exactly what you want suck it up. You would be purchasing the first in hopefully a line of firearms for this forum. Maybe starting a new collection line.

This is the exact mentality that will be required for this to be successful.

Yeah......

Experts

OP Here:
Once again, Is there some consensus as to who the expert is on the forum, or at least an expert who would be interested in this group buy. I am far from a S&W revolver expert. I am thinking maybe I could PM this person with my phone number and speak over the weekend to make sure I include all important topics and variables in the polls. Don't be shy, some please step up. Thanks.

You might consider directing this to the "connected" folks, such as Roy Jinks or Lee Jarrett or some of the other upper echelon on this Forum.

I'm in California so my input doesn't really matter, but I would assume that whatever configuration is agreed on it will have the lock and MIM parts. I can't see Smith & Wesson deviating from the norm here, so if you have objections to this it may be best to bow out now.

Folks what do you think about this?

1000 pieces in total:
- 500 Pieces of a a 3" .357 Magum
- 500 pieces of a 4" 44 Magnum
- 250 sets with both
- 250 of the 357s sold individually
- 250 of the 44s sold separately

The sets will have consecutive Serial Numbers
- the 357 would have an odd serial number
- the 44 would have an even serial number, higher by 1 digit

- Base both off of the L Frame
- a 3" 586 Round Butt with Wood Stocks, 7 Shot Cylinder
- a 4" Square Butt L Frame (Blued) with Wood Stocks and a 5 Shot Cylinder

Both Full Lugged, both blued, both with Wood Stocks and Medallions.

We get stocks from Hogue, Ahrends, Altamont, and have them differ that way.

What do you guys think?

Questions for Smith......... are we limited to round butt, MIM, the lock and the "new hammer"?

My 8-Ball says yes to MIM, lock, and frame mounted firing pin. Square butt if the frame is available currently with that.

I'd be happy if the ball was wrong, tho. Just don't see for example, S&W trying to change a legal settlement with Attorneys General for 500 guns.

I'd be interested. I still think SWCA would be a great resource. Distributors might be more willing to work with them,

No sense submitting a wish list until feasibility has been determined.

BTW, regarding MIM, etc, I'll take what I can get.

Is there a current agreement in place between S&W and ANY AG out there at all?

Also, since S&W does make some guns without the IL, I do not understand why some folks think they HAVE to use the IL. I actually don't care, but I'm curious why anyone thinks that S&W has no choice in the matter.

As for MIM parts versus forged, I dunno, that is either a dollar issue or maybe the equipment is gone.

I have no problem with this concept if that's the consensus:

My preference would be a 3" K-frame but the 586 would be acceptable.

I doubt S&W will negotiate away the internal lock, and I doubt they would be willing to use forged, rather than MIM parts.

I think we would have to settle for "current technology" even in a special run (current technology is not necessarily a bad thing - MIM parts are good in my book, and the lock can always be removed).

Fixed sights and I'd go for a set. A 4" .44 mag with adjustables is just way to common and easily obtained.

......oops just saw it was an L .44 mag. Still want fixed sights tho.......

Someone on this forum has an N-frame with short barrel and fixed sights that is one of the best proportioned revolvers I've ever seen. A very small batch of these was made, iirc. Does anyone have that picture handy?

Huh? I am aware of an agreement with the Clintons, if that is what you are talking about, but I seem to recall that agreement was canceled and is of no further force or effect.

Random thought: how about two polls? The first to narrow down the choices. This poll is free to enter. Once you narrow the choices and confirm Schmidt und Vesson would be willing to make any of those configurations, then you have the second poll between those choices with only folks who make a down payment getting a vote. There's a big difference between liking the general idea and plunking down $100 only to find out you guys chose an 8-3/8" J-frame in .327 Mag.
