If you can only have one HANDGUN ... what would it be?

Handguns are best at self defense. For me, a Colt Government Model, 45 ACP. Lightly tweaked: beavertail grip safety so I don't bleed all over the grip and the finish all comes off; slightly longer trigger; adjustable night sights; Videcki 4 prong sear spring; 5 lb trigger pull; sharp stippling (Clark calls it 'tiger tooth') on front and rear straps. Come to think of it, two of the four guns I keep loaded around the house answer to that description (can you see me grin from there?).

Tough sell between a 1911 or my fnx9

Realistically it would be a gun I don't even like. Some sort of Glock... why? There would be a lot of parts laying around when **** hit the fan

In this type of situation(shtf), I wouldn't mind a Glock 17L. Not for fear of needing parts, but for the great tool it would be.
Otherwise, Overall choice would go to the 4" model 19, P&R'd.

Only one gun ya say...

It'd have to do it all, so for that I'd choose this one.

3" 629-2 custom.

I can load it up or down and it's accurate out to 100 yards if I do my part.

Good for social situations, woods duty, concealment, just about anything.

URBAN:

My HK P2000 with 9mm, .40, and .357 Sig barrels at least 12 mags 3 for each caliber with XS big dots sights. Loaded with the best loads I can find.

RURAL:
627 Pro 8 shot .38/.357 with hot Hornady Critical Defense loads and some new sights not sure yet though.

I thought on this for a few moments, and considering I've spent a lifetime collecting them, I've decided they're all my favorites. . If not, I would have sold or traded them off.

What stocks are those? Very nice by the way.

Of course, these are all good choices too:

625 Mountain Gun in 45 Colt. Fearsome chunk of lead at high velocity.
Model 39, a great combat pistol: this one sits beside my computer.
Model 638: My choice for a pocket pistol: great company for a night on the town.
Ruger Security Six: reliable companion at my side in the desert.
Model 27-2: refinement, accuracy and power.

I'd have to go with the 686.
The 49 in my back pocket doesn't count - Right?

Of the guns I have now, I would have to say it would be my 3 1/2 inch barreled Model 27. If I had a choice of ANY handgun mine or otherwise it would be a 27 with a 5-inch barrel because it would be the perfect compromise between my Model 27 and my Outdoorsman and could fire anything I wanted through it.
