If you could move to your favorite place in the U.S. where would you go?

I've read thru most of the thread, and truthfully I would never consider moving to any of the godawful places that some have suggested.

I admit to being an enigma. I simply love where I grew up and love where I am now. We have good weather, no tornadoes or hurricanes, drought or floods, the home prices and cost of living is awesome and the people are great.

I love to fish and hunt and shoot and our opportunities abound.

OTOH, politics suck, but I imagine they do in other places.

I won't tell you where it is, because if I did everyone would say it sucks. When businesses try to recruit nobody wants to come, but if they do, they refuse to leave. Our kids may move for better opportunities, but then their lifetime goal is to move back.

The problem is America is not where you live, but that you are not satisfied where you live. Not just that, nobody is satisfied with anything.

Godawful places LOL. I thought the same thing, but different strokes for different folks. I feel similar to you. As stated I live in a beautiful area with everything I love to do at my finger tips. The problem is it’s in New York State. The politicians are making it to expensive to live here. I’d like to know how many forum members pay close to $10k in property taxes????? Or $4.39 gal for the cheap gas. Not to mention over 6% state income tax and.875% sales tax. It just never seems to end. Mix in crazy crazy gun laws and cold weather and it pushes people out.

UPDATE:
Listed our Prescott Valley home last week on Wednesday and my wife and I flew out to the east coast for our daughter's college graduation Thurs-Sunday and we came back to two offers on the house and we have accepted one of them....

I feel that we are at the top of the bubble as far as real estate prices are concerned in our area and with the interest rates rising, we are feeling good that we have a solid offer just a bit over our asking price.

My last day at my current job will be May 20th, then I will promptly head north to Salmon to continue the construction process on the "Barndominium" project.

My deadline to be out of the Prescott Valley house is July 31st.....I have a LOT to get done in a very short time!

If it wasn't getting prohibitively expensive due to movie stars and Hollywierds invading, I would choose Jackson Hole Wyoming. There is nothing affordable there now, and it's turning blue.
As it is, with the family homesteading here over a 100 years ago and both of us growing up and living in the land of gentle breezes of SE Wyoming all our lives, I guess Itchy and I will stay where we are.

The family that owns the ranch I will be living on did a 1031 land transfer back in the 1970's and came from Jackson Hole.....their family owned several ranches at one point in Jackson and I am told their are streets there named after them.

I believe his last living aunt sold her little ranch in Jackson for many millions of dollars not too many years ago to one of the California "Immigrants" who have taken over the place.

Right where I am at here in Idaho. Except 30 years ago before everybody decided it was a great place to live and now it isn’t.

I live in a small bedroom community about 14 miles from Boise. There is not one neighbor within 10 houses of me, maybe more that has lived here more than 10 years and most less than 3.
Not bad people, just too many of them

Not a popular choice but Central oh is fine by me.
lifelong resident , I look at my back window and see a pond and my favorite golf course.
couple of years left b4 retirement , kids arent going anywhere , neither is momma once she starts getting those grandbabies.
do a roadtrip to Fla a couple of times a year , and we are good

Update with Barndominium progress photos.....

Quit my job on May 20th and was in Salmon on Tuesday the 24th, spent a little over two weeks cutting in exterior windows/doors and completing the interior framing. Also picked up my appliances, water heater, electrical and plumbing supplies from Idaho Falls while I was up there.

I am back in Prescott Valley for a few days to sign papers on the house sale and take another load of stuff back to put in storage. Will be back on the job hopefully Monday to keep moving.

Next step is to get an electrician/plumber on the inside

We are also going to be installing the septic system, water system and propane this coming week.

Lots to do and so little time to make it happen!!

Oh, and thanks to the current gas prices I am slowly being bled of precious funds as are we all!! Thanks Joey!!

This has been a very interesting read...............

.......the answer might have been for Lee to have bought a large tract of land somewhere a bit remote and sold us all lots in the Smith & Wesson Forum Acres.

My family moved West from the 1600s, France, the Isles, Virginia shore, inland then a split some south to SC, some to East Tenn. Long about 1844 my bunch moved to the Ozarks and most remained here.

The West has continued to pull on me but never seriously acted on it. Born in these old hills and Lord willing will die here. There are a lot worse places, but like everywhere else demographics are constantly shifting these days. Everyone seeking the promised land and perfection. It is inside you.

Stay safe, stay happy we are all getting closer to true perfection.

I've been to most of the 50 states and like where I'm at for a permanent home. Oklahoma is considered by many to be the reddest state and I just couldn't live where I see all the weird political things happening in other states. People are friendly here, summers are hot and fun, winters are mild to cold, it can get humid and windy, but it just feels like home. I've been taking a lot of vacations to other places the last several years but as much as I enjoy Montana, Alaska, Colorado, Florida, California, Texas, Washington, and others, after a week or so I'm always ready to come home to OKC. Now when I retire I wouldn't mind leasing an AirB&B in Italy for a few months.

Tom, I can see Mickey D’s spread in the distance. :D

Best wishes on your next adventure. 👍

Can you point out the guest room? 😎

Seriously, you are living a dream. I am green with envy.

The Adirondacks, if New York State ever decided to make living there worth it. The sky high taxes, high prices for goods and services and burdensome gun laws make it a "no go" for me now.

For me, the Adirondacks has it all: great trout fishing, hunting, skiing, back packing, cycling, boating, etc.....and, close proximity to the ocean, Canada and skiing in Vermont also.

Everything considered, I am in the right place. Theoretically, that could change. Practically, it probably won't. Just heard that a couple I know is moving from here to a more woke urban paradise that isn't so pro-Trump. Of course that may just reflect our own little group.

Meanwhile, my other social cohort (well, not quite 600) of septuagenarian and octogenarian gun nuts seems stable and dominant to the point that I am considering encouraging one of my Democrat friends not to feel suppressed by the prevailing sentiment.

Covid? Unlike the nearby urban paradise, local police expressed a complete lack of interest in mask mandates, as did much of the general populace. While I, as most, wore a mask in indoor public places (supermarkets), on the street most folks just walked around those they were worried about, with customary greetings unaffected.

Obviously, MA has some laws wrong, but, as an old man who has too many guns rather than too few, I am not much affected. I know that the law is wrong and should be changed, but I don't think that I have to live somewhere else because some other person wants a gun he can't get but won't relocate.

Meanwhile, MA has very few restrictions on where a permit-holder may carry a weapon, fewer than many or most "free" states.

There are many places in this great country of ours that sound attractive, but for my personal circumstances, Cape Cod is just fine.

Hello all, I have been trying to reach member Mickey D who also lives in Salmon Idaho......anyone here know his contact info and could PM or email me? He sent me a PM several months ago, but he has not responded to my PM's and I do not have his email or phone number.

Your help is appreciated!

Any where? Any where at all? Easy!!! Smyrna, GA. Of course I'd have to have a vacation home in Jersey City, NJ. That way I'd get to see my daughters and my precious grandchildren on more than an occasional basis. Everything else I can get or drive to and do but those girls and their babies are my heart!!! Sincerely. bruce.
