Illinois is soviet russia when it comes to gun laws - lots of laws keeping law abiding citizens from arming themselves while the bad guys will be armed regardless of any law telling them they can't be armed. If they are willing to beat you, rob you, rape you, kidnap you or kill you - do you really, I mean do you really really think that such a person will care at all whether carrying a firearm is legal or not. (Nor will they care if using a firearm in the commission of an offence will add time to their sentence - they are willing to RAPE ROB AND KILL after-all).

So, to fight back against the Illinois Unlawful Use of Weapon "UUW" Law and its complete lack of any kind of carry permit, let's have a

WEAR YOUR EMPTY HOLSTER TO WORK DAY!

Have about 10-12 each year so about one each month. Or something like "the First Friday" of each month.

When people ask you why you are carrying an empty holster tell them because every minute of every day since about 1969 or so ILLINOIS RAPES THE SECOND AMENDMENT; and, it's empty because I am denied my God Given and Constitutionally Protected right to bear arms and defend myself, my family and friends, and when necessary, complete strangers who are being victimized.

Remember, when the bad guys come and seconds count, the police are only minutes away!

I think it would be neat if people started wearing empty holsters everywhere, not just to work, but to the store, out to dinner, let people in Illinois start getting used to seeing people in civilian clothes with a holster on their belt. Of course with the ultimate goal of one day being able carry a loaded weapon in that holster.

Thoughts concerns ideas all welcome.

I like it and good luck, Never give up or in. It took Wisconsin a long time and hopefully someday you will be a free state also. I think you people should wear your holsters everyday, not just once a month.

I'm sympathetic with your plight. I avoid Illinois like the plague because of it, but just remember this type of demonstration might be a problem on the job, and may attract potentially dangerous attention out in public. Would be a shame to lose your job or permanently "mark" yourself as "unfit for promotion" with this tactic, or, even worse, to attract potentially deadly attention of the police.

Having said that, I hope someday the good folks of IL can somehow get their rights restored. It is a shame to see such tyranny right in the heart of the midwest. :o

Ya know what's scary is evevn if the law is changed- again- rahm may not honor it. It's so bead these days, citis/states just say no to laws, and with our current admin, if they agree they simply don't enforce. Just saw FREEDOM TIMES new release and they're saying obama has again banned M-1 carbines from being imported, which he has no authority to do. No surprise, is it. Good luck to IL, afraid you're gonna need prayers and luck both.

Use that energy to get people to vote out the bumbs that
took away your second amendment.

That is the way to go, but again good lluck with that! So many in IL have gotten accustomed to the 'life of luxury' that they will never vote for a conservative. I think until IL actually goes bankrupt, and conserv's are put in to fix it, there's not much hope.

I like to share stories where bad guys were thwarted by a citizen who was legally carrying a gun. Or where a homeowner protected themselves.

People hear so much bashing from the anti-gunners, I plant the seeds of truth and self dependance whenever I can. ;)

I agree with everything in the original post and being from Illinois, I've thought about doing that very thing. But I also agree with the above. I won't bring that attention to me or my family. If the wrong person saw me and followed me home I would now be a target for robbery, home invasion, assault, etc. I feel the town hall meetings and the yearly rally in Springfield is the way to go. I love the passion though.

First of all quit voting for democrats (or liberals) put a conservative into office, the problem in Illinois is that everything is run by democrats who are liberals, and they think only they should have the rights that you should also have, and if in the next election you can not change that then it is time to think about moving to another State!

Illinois' problem is that democracy doesn't exist in the state.

Cook County contains Chicago, which has a greater population than the rest of the state combined. The current governor, a liberal imbecile who publicly stated he would veto concealed carry, won re-election on four counties, with his conservative challenger winning the rest of the state. One of those counties was Cook county, and he still would have won on Chicago alone. With that kind of a population stranglehold on the state government, "voting out " these imbeciles is not a practical option.

In the graphic below, pro 2A challenger Bill Brady won the red counties. Pat Quinn, the current Democrat occupant, won the blue.

You need to spend more time replacing your politicians, either through the ballot box, or the court system & PRISON CELLS which have had a number of Illinois politicos residing in over the years.

This stems from a good place, but I also think that this is the kind of thing that is a waste of time and makes the antis see us as nuts. We need to be using that energy talking to our reps, spreading the word about decent and common sense candidates to replace the gun-hating folks in the house, and working internally to raise awareness.

It's about fighting back, but not like that. You walk around with an empty holster, and everyone except the very few who really understand what you're saying will not have a positive response. We have to fight back, but it has to be a groundswell - a grass-roots effort in the legislation and long-standing judicial processes. Intermittent demonstrations are not the way to our goal.

Just my humble opinion, for what it's worth.

Here in Illinois we have a saying:"Our license plates are made by our Govenors." most if whim have been to the "big house"!
Since I own the property I live on, I do carry while out in the yard doing whatever. Now there's supposed to be some sort of law stating you can't or are not supposed to defend yourself outside your home...well I'll be damned if I let them get that far!!
And just so ya know, both Sheriffs' of Madison and St. Clair counties DI favor concealed carry! Dale

EDIT- went and found the article, it's in AMERICAN HANDGUNNER- Jan-Feb 2012, it's the Guncrank Diaries by John Connor, article named CHALK AND CHEESE.
Ditto; article a few months ago in one of the gun mags about how we should 'argue' with anti-gunners. 'Argue' in quotes cause he said NOT to argue, but to educate. What he was saying was, some folks are just plain anti-gun and won't change, we'd be wasting our breath. The ones we need to get to are the border-liners, fence-sitters, the don't=care-either-way 'ers. Idea is to focus on our rights, not so much the guns. Like, govt takes our guns away, violating the Const., they'll take away something YOU like next. The age-old argument that if they take away guns from GOOD people only the BGs will...
Yall get the idea. It was written by an Englishman talking about how Americans are fighting the wrong battle, and we'd better wise up befroe we turn into THEM. Find the fence-sitters and explain their rights- not tell them that they should be rabid pro-gun folks- like us lol

Illinois here too. My understanding is you can Carry on your property and I do...in and outside the house. I'm in a job that deals with LEOs in Illinois (and most other states) and there isn't a law enforcement agency that doesn't support it.
