I'm Retired!

Congratulations on your retirement. I retired after 30 years on the job in 2009, and found a lot more time to spend on the activities I enjoy. Do the same. Keep busy, and enjoy being able to sleep late...:)

Congratulations, Buff, on a dedicated career of service to your community and for being the wall between us civilians and the bad guys. I know you didn't get compensated nearly enough ( none of you LEOs do ) for putting your life on the line for 32 years, but many of us appreciate it more than you know.
Enjoy your leisure time to the fullest!
There are many young people out there who could benefit greatly from your experience and obvious set of values; take any opportunity to teach them because they may not find it anywhere else in their lives.

You made it to the end of your final shift. That's what it's all about. Best wishes in your retirement.

Congrats! Looks like I beat you by 28 days! 35 years of shift work making electricity ended Jan 31. Except I'm still on vacation for another 30 days, so maybe you beat me. . .

Congratulations and enjoy your retirement. I retired in 2003 after 30 years and it will take a short time to get out of your system. You will find the days fly by.

Congratulations and hope you enjoy this new phase of your life. I retired just six months ago and I'm just starting to feel like maybe I didn't wait too long. After 24 years in the military, and 24 years in the civilian work force, I decided at 70 that time was more important to me than another paycheck.

When I first retired I found myself thinking that at my age I might not get to do the things I dreamed about, but as the months have passed I am feeling better about things. I need about another 6 months before I can really relax.

My advice to you is to develop some other routine to replace your work routine; one without stress and of your own choosing. I feared for awhile that I would end up like a scene out of the Sopranos, where you see Tony still in his bathrobe in the middle of the day, unshaven, trudging down the driveway to get the newspaper. I now go the Sports Club almost every morning, after relaxing with coffee and the internet until about 10 AM. Afternoons are for going to the range, running errands, or helping my wife with helping out with the grandkids. Once the weather gets better, afternoons will mean long rides on my motorcycle again.

One of the best parts of retirement has been looking out the window on a day with horrible weather and knowing that I can just stay home if I feel like doing that; no stress, no pressure of getting to the office or worse, traveling to the various places my old job required me to do regardless of the weather. And knowing that all of the email I get is stuff I am interested in, or sales offers, but NONE have the power to strike fear into my heart like a crisis at work or a reminder that I missed a deadline.

Enjoy life. Live long and prosper.

Congratulations Buff, on your service to your community. Now you get to enjoy the life you paid your dues for. Do what you want, when you want and enjoy life. Live long, and prosper!

Welcome to the fraternity of the retired. I have been a member for seven years, come July. Thirty-two years of LE and six of military before that and I was ready to retire. Enjoy and cherish the memories.

It took me one false start, and two years to get the hang of being retired. When i figured out how to be retired, I took a little part-time job so I'd know what day it was.
