Is it rude

I'm glad you have this attitude. There are some things that just aren't worth getting bugged about. However, that doesn't mean it's not rude.

I have no doubt that others consider it rude. For me, it just doesn't reach that level. Actually, it doesn't come close. But that's me.

Jimmy,

Yes, I find that kind of questions rude and offensive.
Along with several others,
Like, how many persons have you shot
What's your take home pay, or how much are you really worth
How many cows are you running, and
How much cash have you got on you....

And my patent'd answer to all of the above;

It takes all of my waking hours to tend to my own business....
You (to the offender) must be neglecting most of yours, eh?

Su Amigo,
Dave

I say yes, it's rude, with one exception.

If we are heading into some **** or a rough area of town, and I'm asking because I'm going to give you a gun to carry if you don't have one already.

Only people that know me have ever asked and my answer is always the same. I laugh and ask them, "what kind of person do you think I am?"

I openly carry, and my Glock 34 is a big as a 1911 so it's hard not to notice.

Be careful about what you say to any agent of the government, whether LE or any other government employee. This is the federal statute. Some states also have statutes.

18 USC Section 1001
(a) Except as otherwise provided in this section, whoever, in any matter within the jurisdiction of the executive, legislative, or judicial branch of the Government of the United States, knowingly and willfully—
(1) falsifies, conceals, or covers up by any trick, scheme, or device a material fact;
(2) makes any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or representation; or
(3) makes or uses any false writing or document knowing the same to contain any materially false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry;
shall be fined under this title, imprisoned not more than 5 years or, if the offense involves international or domestic terrorism (as defined in section 2331), imprisoned not more than 8 years, or both. If the matter relates to an offense under chapter 109A, 109B, 110, or 117, or section 1591, then the term of imprisonment imposed under this section shall be not more than 8 years.
(b) Subsection (a) does not apply to a party to a judicial proceeding, or that party's counsel, for statements, representations, writings or documents submitted by such party or counsel to a judge or magistrate in that proceeding.
(c) With respect to any matter within the jurisdiction of the legislative branch, subsection (a) shall apply only to—
(1) administrative matters, including a claim for payment, a matter related to the procurement of property or services, personnel or employment practices, or support services, or a document required by law, rule, or regulation to be submitted to the Congress or any office or officer within the legislative branch; or
(2) any investigation or review, conducted pursuant to the authority of any committee, subcommittee, commission or office of the Congress, consistent with applicable rules of the House or Senate.

Well, there goes most folks east of the Potomac! :D:D:D

If that included lying to the average citizen, inside the beltway would be a ghost town.

Horsefeathers.

It is not against the law to admit you are carrying nor is it against the law to tell a lie unless you are under oath.

+1
If interacting with law enforcement it is required to disclose you are carrying.

to much thin skin here. i reserve the right to ask just about any question so long as its not obscene. the other person has the right to answer or not. when I am asked questions the quantity and quality of my answers varies greatly depending on who's asking and what the question was. whats the issue?

Who was it? James Bond or somebody said. "If I tell you that, I'll have to kill you."

I've never been asked, but I have contemplated responding with, "Does your wife wear boxers or briefs?"

Not in every state. No requirement here in Pa.

Exactly. I don't see the big deal. Certainly nothing to be mad or or take personally

No one knows I ccw carry. I tell no one. My close family knows I'm heavy all the time. It's better the rest of them don't know. The element of surprise can turn the tide of a bad situation in life or death. Nowadays the world is getting really bad no matter where we live.

Unfortunately some other family members have expressed that they don't like guns. Does packin in there eyes make me a bad guy I could care less. They need to take there heads out of the clouds and get down to earth. They think there better than everyone else so probably no one would ever think of doing harm to them. There peachy keen view of the world is like story book fairy tale stuff.

Think of the bad guy being a shark and were all in the water and I have the only spear gun. Everyone else is bait.

My point is to arm yourself with the knowledge of words to say when the talk about why you carry a gun. They don't realize that your protecting everyone around you too.
