My apex DCAEK kit came in today, so I started to tear the gun down to begin installation. I noticed that part of the locking block appears to be melted a little bit, and I was wondering if this was a normal casting mark or a defect in the materials. Thanks in advance...this forum looks like a great source of information!

Hmmm. Mine doesn't have that mark after quite a few rounds. Just curious, how many rounds have you put through this gun?

Only around 500. Another forum assured me that it was a casting mark, so I'm not too worried anymore.

Normal mark caused by MIM manufacturing.

It can vary from one locking block to another.

Here's a couple of M&P LB's. Notice how one has a more pronounced mark than the other. (One block appears more worn in its finish because it's one pulled from a pistol, while the other one is brand new.)

One of my 9c had a very similar casting mark. I shot thousands of rounds with it before selling it and never had a problem so I would not worry about it...

Mine has that mark too

I just bought a new M&P9 fullsize and mine has the exact same casting mark. The barrel lug does not ride on that edge so it does not matter.
