Is this RUST on the Stainless Slide?!!!

Are you going to share this magic of which you speak?

Use a GOOD lube liberally. I use Tetragun. Slowly rub the slide with steel wool putting little pressure on it.

I've done this many times to remove superficial marks on stainless guns for years. Never had a problem afterwards either.

Old gunsmith taught me that. I thought he was crazy until I tried it.

Just don't rub too hard!

I've used Hoppes #9 and some 0000 steel wool to remove minor rust off of metal and firearms before. Use very light pressure until the rust is gone. Then wipe it with a clean rag with some more oil.

Clean it, lube it up with Froglube and shoot it. Who cares what it looks like, it's a polymer service weapon, not a rare, polished BBQ gun.

Just have to ask, what is a BBQ gun? (never heard that term, I mean not together, I get a weird mental picture of what a "BBQ gun" would look like. :D)

*UPDATE*

SO I spoke with S&W and it's looking like they will replace the slide for me, since they have the lifetime warranty. The Rep never asked for my warranty information. My friend also never filled out the warranty card for himself. Honestly, I haven't filled out the warranty information on the M&P either yet...Im not too sure if I should wait to see for sure if the slide gets replaces or wait to see if I get billed for any charges.

Apparently the "rust" problem on certain batches M&P Slides are affected by this, I spent a great deal researching and googling before I decided to go through the motions of getting the return shipping label from S&W Warranty Center. A simple google of "M&P Stainless Rusting" will bring up numerous articles of people and Law Enforcement Agencies with the nasty rusting issue.

My friend did not keep the anti rust paper on while the M&P was in the case, BUT he did keep a rag that was used to wipe down the gun with oil (Not too sure if thats better).

I appreciate all the feedback and advice on maintaining the M&P, quite frankly i've never had a problem with rust on my other firearms. Although, the M&P is my only gun that is "Stainless" all in all this is a great learning experience!

I will let you guys/girls know the outcome of the "lifetime warrant" on the slide, and if and how long it takes to get replaced!!! wish me luck!!:D

Oh and by the way I am using Mil-Comm to lube my M&P, since i use it on my other firearms I going to assume thats fine?

bbq gun - a gun pretty enough to show off to your friends, usually pimped out and gaudy.
So in this instance does BBQ mean Barbecue?(or something else) When I think of the term BBQ Gun I think of an M&P with a spatula attached to the slide.:D

There are a bunch of different preferences as the many threads about this have shown. I use Frog Lube but this question is like asking which religion is the right one:eek: My personal feeling is that anything that's slippery will work, if you already have it, go with it.
