Liberty safes

From a professional standpoint, excellent safe. Get it delivered and installed. I know, I used to move safes. :o:rolleyes:;)

Listen to Kanewpadle. He's a professional, don't try this at home. :)

Seriously, you are investing in a $$$ item.
Spend a little to get it professionally installed.

Liberty has some safes made in China. Stick with the ones made in the USA.

A gas powered abrasive construction saw can open any home safe in less than 10 minutes. Only down side is the noise and dust. All those bolts around the door cut like butter. If you are in town they probably won't use one.

I've had a Liberty for about 15 years. No problems except that it seems to have shrunk over the years. It used to hold all my guns easily but, not now. My best advice is to choose a model that is bigger than you think you would ever need and then buy one at least one size bigger.

Local delivery was included in my price, we drove to Franklin, NC and picked my son's safe up as there were none available within 100 miles of Atlanta at the time.

Google "David's Gun Room" in Norcross, GA. The shop is a Liberty safe dealer and they deliver. I know they deliver out of town, though I am unsure how far. It will not hurt to ask.

David's is where I bought mine, negotiated delivery into my basement garage and I paid the guys $50 to move it into the house.

PSA: Having just gone through back surgery, I would HIGHLY suggest that you have it delivered. It's not worth it to risk your back!

I've been looking at a Winchester but only because that is the only model that shows to have both 110v receptacle and an Rj-45 network jack. Do the Liberty models offer these options?

I have two Liberty Franklins. I bought the first one 7 years ago and the second one last year as my collection grew. The 1st one was a discontinued model and the 2nd had light scratches on the door that came out after I hand buffed it, so I did pay a little less for them. I also had them delivered and set up by the professional safe sales company where I bought them. I also had the golden rod dehumidifiers installed. All in all.... A great investment and I would recommend Liberty safes.

Liberty safes in general are top notch (I have a Liberty President for 20 years) but not even close to the security of a Jewelers Safe. A Jewelers Safe would have to be converted to a gun safe by building racks and shelves, but the Burglar Rating is usually much higher.. Gun Safes are known for their high gloss paint finish, fancy gold or silver plated spoked wheels, pin striping, etc. (which you are paying a pretty penny for instead of strength) while Jewelers Safes are plain jane dull industrial finished workhorses that will out perform a "gun safe" every time.

If you can get over the safe NOT having a fancy finish, go look at some used Jewelers Safes - you will get a lot more security if that is what you truly want. Most people who buy Gun Safes usually wind up putting other valuables in there too, making the safe a much higher risk for loss. You will have to have a few basic tools and some mechanical ability to build shelves and racks, but you will wind up with one secure safe.

The MOST IMPORTANT THING is no matter what safe or brand you buy, BOLT IT DOWN!!!! If you can hide it in a closet with an alarm system on it, all the better, but bolting it down has proven to make a safe that much more secure because it's much harder for a burglar to work the door opened in the upright position than on its back.

If I were to buy another safe I would follow my own advise. 20 years ago I did what most of us have done and bought the fancy painted Gun Safe. Again, Liberty is a great Gun Safe, but the Jewelers safes are far superior because they are thicker, heavier, have better locks and are just designed from the get-go to hold more valuable items.

ADDED May 14th:
Just did a quick check on Fleebay and there are jeweler's safes that are around the same outer dimensions of a Liberty President Series 40 but the Jewelers safe has 6" thick doors, and weighs in at over 3,000 pounds. They are rated so that an Insurance Co. will insure up to 3 Million dollars! The price - - - - about the same as the Liberty in excellent used condition. Some also have another small safe inside with another combination lock - for extra valuable items.

Overkill? Maybe, but if you can get MUCH MUCH MUCH better protection and fire resistance for the same money and you can get over the Jewelers safe having less than a "Hollywood finish", than that is the way to go IMHO. That's what I would do next time!

I have had a Liberty for many years, and been very pleased with it generally. Back when I bought it, it was the biggest Franklin safe they made. They didn't offer the options they do now, but there were access holes in it, so I was able to install a couple of Goldenrods and lights.

As others have noted, bolt that sucker to the floor! There are holes pre-drilled in the bottom of the safe, and securing it makes it almost impossible for a thief to topple it.

The stated capacity is not accurate, unless all of your rifles are Ruger #1 models or similar: The indents in the rifle racks are too close together.

I've never been good at opening conventional combination locks, so I got the electronic keypad lock, and I highly recommend it.

You can get them with electrical power but I don't know about network jacks. They do have an optional wireless monitor. Take a look at their website for more info.

Mine has the 115VAC outlet. I don't think it has the network jack, but a dealer would be able to answer that. They could probably install one.

I bought two of the Centurion Models at Lowes. Included delivery which made it the cheapest. Was only curbside but the delivery guy took it as far as the garage. We installed them in a space that had 1/4 inch clearance. We (a buddy and I) were only able to get it into the back yard. We hired the local furniture movers to get it into the house.

They are bolted down, and have 1/4 inch clearance on the top. To get them our, they will have to remove the closet. When we finish remodeling and install the new floor, there will be a 1/2 inch lip in front of them.

I also have a Freedom Security (by Liberty) in my office that keeps a few firearms and cameras, papers, etc.

No complaints on any of them.

Liberty Safes

After speaking with several firearm owners in my area plus two gunsmiths, I went with the Liberty Lincoln model. I did commit the cardinal sin - I bought too small!

Liberty Safes are made in the U S A, they have a lifetime warranty, and they have outstanding Customer Service. If there is a problem, Customer Service will be your best ally!

I also bought mine from David's Gun Room. I spoke with David about a second Lincoln (same size) model, or a larger one. He mentioned that he does go out of state for deliveries. I believe that my delivery costs were about $200.00. I'm about 25 miles from David. It was worth every cent to allow David to do the work. He has all of the equipment that will be needed, plus the experience. Most Liberty safes start at just under 1,000#. If that weight shifts on either you or your friends you could have some huge medical expenses, and a lifetime of medical problems. Let the professionals do what they do best!

Not all Liberty Residential Security Containers (RSC) are made in the US. The Centruion line is made in China.

The Fat Boy and Fat Boy Jr. are made in the US.

We bought our Liberty Colonial 20 (25 gun) at Fin Feather & Fur. Free deliver and install within 50 mole radius. I was going to buy the Fatboy..but the Colonial was on sale for $699 delivered. . I measured every which way and decided on the smaller because it was as cheaper to buy 2 Colonial 20s than the Fat Boy. I have the option of having them in different areas of the house. Smaller footprint.. And I just bought the 1 as it was all I needed at the time. It's actually time to look for another. This was taken well over 2years ago.. when I first bought it. I have racks and hangers to increase capacity,I had to move the long guns to make room for other handguns. I am considering buying 2 more safes. One for more handguns and one for long guns alone. SO far I would go back to Liberty. I did notice the same safe at Gander M was hundreds of $$$ more than at Fin F F. (But that is an Ohio store)

I've got the Fat Boy Jr. as well...got it through Lowe's on veteran's Day (10% additional off). Saved $450 off the MSRP.

My issue: RADIANT HEAT. How on earth do I bolt it to the floor without springing a leak?

I bought the Fatboy Jr also, but my buddy said I should have gotten the Fatboy. He was right.

Got it a the local Gander Mountain and hired a guy, who had cards at the store, deliver it and put it in the basement for me.

Love my Liberty. Bought it in '98 and moved it from IL to SC to KS to AK to VA to PA to FL to CA to SC (to be fair a bunch of whiny movers did it)...she's got some scratches but works like a charm.

I have a Liberty safe as well as a Cannon safe. I'm now contemplating a third one. You won't go wrong with a Liberty. If I do get another one, it'll be a Liberty.

Get one much larger than you think you'll need.

Looks like Lowes has stopped selling Liberty safes.
