New Setup
Well, my dad bought me a Centerpoint 4-16x40 illuminated scope for Christmas. He really wanted to see it on the M&P 15-22 but I wanted it on my Marlin 883. So I mounted it up on the M&P to make dad happy and off to the range we went. I have to say, I was quite impressed. After sighting it in, I was shooting tight 100 yard groups and kinda fell in love with it after 500 rounds. I did some late evening shooting as well and the optics are clear and bright at dusk. The scope holds zero very well with the zero locking rings and puts me right on top of the bulls eye at 100 yards. I'm missing my halo and iron sights, so after leaving Dad's house, I put it on the Marlin and it just did not look or feel quite right and I don't think this is the scope for hunting small game due to having to focus at different distances. I regularly shoot squirrel from 10-50 yards and some focus is needed between the those ranges. I put it back on the M&P for plinking and paper and plan on buying a dual rail scope adapter to get the halo and my soon to arrive green laser on. I don't want to make a swiss army knife out of the M&P, so there will be some trial and error to determine the final setup. I might mount the halo at 45 degrees left and the laser 45 degrees to the right and see how things look. I want to stay as compact as possible and keep a secondary quick acquisition setup viable. I've got to keep my marriage viable too, so as money allows, I'm going with a stubby front grip and some 10 round mags. Most of my AR "stuff" comes from my local gun shop (where I can sneak a cash purchase) and he has a limited supply of the good stuff. I'll have to pay a little more and get him to order my stubby front grip and 10 round mags. LOL
