I have been looking for the sport(not a need but a want) based on all the good things I have seen and heard here on line. Trouble is, not any of the stores around here have them in stock. When I have visited different LGS I get the same response: We'd love to sell them, but we can get it. One even said that he'd sell them all day but hasn't seen them for months and doesn't know if he ever will. Every store on line states either it's: temporarily out of stock or on back order or not available. I finally was able to talk to a sales manager at the LGS that I got my M&P 40 just to ask what they would sell them for(they require 20% to order)if they had them and was told $699-if they ever became available. They've had many requests, but nobody wanted to put down money for something that no one knew if or when it would become available. Getting very frustrated.:(

Some one in this forum will be able to tell you where you can find one, between all the people in here and the different sites that they monitor I find it to be a great place for knowledge.

I don't understand why they want 20% down. If you don't come in to pick it up, I don't think it will gather dust on the shelf. Tell him that and offer him $50.

Don't understand the high % myself, but it's their store policy. 10% would seem fair, but 20% for who knows how long, that's a bit much. Given that no ones has them in stock, and the stock answer I keep hearing is that they have no idea when(or if) they'll even become available, I wonder if S&W has just stopped manufacturing them. Although I do find it hard to believe that a product that is in such high demand at a price point that is extremely competitive and that store inventories are non existent, you'd think that S&W would be trying to get these made ASAP. But it just does not seem to be the case.

they havent stopped making them, there is such a back log of orders that the people who were first in line are the ones who are getting them.

I ordered one a month ago. I got curious how bad the back order was so I emailed Customer Service rather that wait for a third-hand answer from the dealer. I got a reply in 2 days saying they are being shipped daily and had just under 2500 units back ordered. I dont know if that was for all Sports or just the 811038 I asked about? Yesterday I got notification from the big distributor (not sure if I'm supposed to name names) and one of the big online gun dealers that they had them in stock. The online dealer shows $621. but you have to join their VIP club for $25. Still not bad.

It's your money, I understand that, so do as you see fit. However 20% isn't that bad. When I ordered my Ruger SR1911 on 12/30/11 I had to put 50% down. It is now with in $75.00 of being paid for. I am however still waiting on it.

I just ordered my Sport today and had to put 50% down.

They could not give me a date or a time frame better then 2 to 3 months, but from all the stores that I have been to no one can do better.

$639 -3% for cash = $619.83

you can turn the Kalifornia version into a regular one in about 20 minutes and not much money

It's budsgunshop.com but it's the Kalifornia version.

Eeew.

10 round mag limit. Bullet button. I'm not sure what else our beleagured California brothers in arms have to endure. No forward grip? No flash hider? No adjustable stock? IDK.

I live in Illinois, and don't know if California is any better.

Yes it was Buds and it now shows "out of stock". With the 10 rd. mag and bullet button it is no longer an "assault weapon" so it therefore can retain all the features which made it evil.

No collapsible stock either. Mine is a New York version which is basically the same minus the bullet button (thank God for small miracles). Yes you can change around most of this stuff however with ease. You'll spend a little extra cash but if they have one I'd jump on it. My dealer said I was very lucky to get mine when I did, he can't get more either.

Keith what state are you in? Let us know and one of us may be able to tell you if they saw a Sport in a local store. Last time I was in Lubbock I saw one at Gander Mtn but it was over $700. If it was me I would avoid getting the California version even if it took a little longer.

Recently found one locally. It was being checked in. Went back the next day and it was gone. If you find one, you have to be ready to move quick.

Just found one on gunsamerica.com for $670 + $20 shipping, they have a couple others that are $700+.

I'm in Minnesota

No collapsible stock either...

The CA Compliant model actually does have the collapsible stock.
Like I said, with the "fixed" 10 rd. magazine, it can have all the features that would otherwise classify it as an assault weapon. If you're in the market and you found one for the right price, why not buy it?

What do you mean by "fixed 10rd mag" Couldn't you just replace it with the 30?
Other than the bullet button & 10rd mag, what else is different? Minnesota will allow the "full" model.
Checking the S&M website the 811037 has a fixed stock while the 811038 has the collapsable stock. The 811036 is the full model.
