There are many good choices. There are two that I know are effective according to law enforcement statistics.

Winchester Ranger T 127 +P+
Speer Gold Dot 124 +P

I have shot both out of my M&P compact and they performed well. Recoil was not a factor. If you don't care for a +P round then stick to heavier rounds in 147gr.

I like Win Ranger because I can buy a box of 50 for almost the same cost as 20 or 25 rounds of another brand.

Others that have a good track record are Federal HST, Corbon DPX, and Remington Golden Saber.

Pick one. Make sure it functions properly and is accurate.

Recreational? Plinking? Stick to just about anything brass cased.

Welcome aboard!

Like Kanewpadle says, the 9C isn't a picky eater. It'll gobble up whatever you choose to feed it. For recreational purposes look for sales and buy whatever is available.

For Self Defense, KP has some named some excellent choices.

Buy a box of several different types and brands of ammo from 115gr. to 147gr., both regular velocity and +P. Each gun has it's own personality and what shoots best and to point of aim in mine may not shoot best in yours. Beside, the process will give you much needed trigger time and familiarity with your pistol.

I shoot the cheap WW white box at the range, but I finish up each session with a mag or two of my chosen carry ammo.

For recreation and practice any of the FMJ ammo in a brass case that you can buy at Walmart or other big box stores work fine.

For SD rounds any of the premium ammo does a good job and makes little difference which one you get be it standard or +P. Bullet weight is a matter of personal preference. Any of the police surplus ammo that was previously mentioned in JHP will be good too. Some of the better rounds are Speer Gold Dots, Remington Golden Sabers, Winchester PDX1, Federal Hydra Shok.

Note that +P+ ammo will void your waranty and is harder on your gun so its mainly for carry and shooting a little to see that it works in your gun reliably if you decide to use it. I do carry +P+ in some of my 9's and accept the risks of using it. You will find +P+ ammo from police and law enforcement surplus sourcesm, most brick and mortar commercial outlets will not sell it.

sorry for taking so long to reply. i am using hornady for carry use and rws sport line and remmington as my range rounds what you guys think about those brands ...
one reason being that i live in south fl and it is hard to find ammo outside of gun show

I've had good luck with just about any ammo I put through my 9c except the Tulamo. Doesn't seem to like steel case.

Ok that's good to know. Since I go after the cheapest range ammo I will be using many different brands .. Want about the repacks

My post from back in September still stands.

However, today I'd add that the best ammo for any handgun is whatever you can find.
