Hello,

I've seen metal floor plate mags that I believe were made for earliest of the Lady Smith 3913's. I have a Lady Smith that I got for my wife, but it came with only pinky extension mags. I do believe that mag held 1 less round, however.

Of all the metal mag floor plates out there (beretta, sig, smith, etc., etc) I would think there is at least one out there that isn't crazy expensive that would fit decent to stock 3913 or CS9 mags with little/simple mods. I like the super short grip look, and for less printing, more concealability. I've never seen one of the stock 3913LS mags for sale, but seen them in pictures. Attached a couple images below for reference. On the picture with the 908S, it's the middle one, obviously.

There was a fellow here, that did a crazy sweet custom job on his CS45 I remember reading (melt, laser etches, ejection port, etc). He had a flat metal floor plate that I believe he modded from a sig P220 metal floor plate. Looked great, but different size than 3913's obviously.

Have you fellow 3913/908/3914/cs9/3953 lovers ever come up with a nice way to achieve this without spending crazy money for super-duper rare mags?

Very cool squidsix...I knew somebody here would have figured something out for that. I've got some "flat" plastic floorplates ordered from midway...but those aren't very flat, at about .25" tall. I'm anxious to try the MK9 plates! Really like the look of the MK9 as well, but too hung up on DA/SA over striker guns. I was just looking at parts on their website, stainless one for around $9 and they even have black steel versions with laser engraved designs like USA flag, don't tread on me snake, etc. for around $20. Thanks for taking the time to share!!

I agree. Been shooting carrying 3913's since early 90's. Always kept my eyes/ears/mind open for better option (all metal da/sa)...have yet to see one. And doubt I ever will, given the direction of manufacturers these days. Not knocking the poly guns or all metal strikers...just sticking to platform I know, use, and love. Sig DA/SA are nice but just too fat, and not a fan of mini 1911's. My pocket backup is my stainless PPK. Same da/sa, same safety/decock position and function. Old dog not looking for new tricks I guess. Thanks for the pics. I was anxious to order these already, now even more so. I've got one of my sweet 3913 up for sale now to help pay for CS9, and will try these bases on those mags as well. Could "almost" be a pocket gun that way...but will mainly be my wife's "smaller" option for her standard 3913LS carry (especially with Big Dogs). Couldn't talk her into anything smaller, and she's as stuck on S&W DA/SA as me.

I haven't been able to find the part number for the 7-round flush-fit mags with the steel floor plates. I *think* they are the same mag body as the 3913TSW mag but with the flat steel plate, but I don't know. I no longer have a CS9 mag to test this with.
The 8-round mags stick out a little like mine, above, with steel plate. Hopefully some nice person will take their CS9 mag's floor plate off and stick it in their 3913 for us to check.

Do they stick out a little, like squidsix' gun? I thought there was a way to get a flush-fit mag, but you had to lose a round.

Yes..... the flush fit mag was 7 rounds... the 8rouund mag's body extends about a 1/4 inch below the frame and the base wraps around the mag on 3 sides.

the 7 round mag. was available from S&W .... last one I bought; maybe 10 years ago..... there were still/only...... less than a dozen left.

As an aside: you can use old S&W mags or flat metal floorplates on 59xx series mags to get a true flush fit mag on the 59xx, 915 and 69xx guns. If you can live without the finger rest........ you can also use the 59xx "plastic " base .... ground back....... on the 69xx guns

Bam-Bam, do you have a part number or assembly number handy for that mag? I am looking to add at least one to my ever growing collection of 3900 series mags.

Good luck.

Sorry........... should have PM'ed.

Squidsix.... called S&W to see if I could grab one for you..... " out of stock" Sorry

Try Oldman10mm he seems to have sources for Smith 3rd Gen mags.

Called S&W, they looked it up on their "old system" (whatever that means) and they are obsolete and none in their supply system. So the search continues.

referencing back to BAM_BAMs' post #12,the 2 I had in my 'mags for sale' thread sold immediately. Guess I put too good of a price on them at $25 each shipped. I have one left in my master reference set but since I recently acquired a 3953 and 3913LS,gonna have to start watching for them at the shows. Being that they're only 7rds,vendors/tables had a hard time selling them.

What they don't know won't hurt us........:D Bigger/more rounds is not always better.

There use to be a guy selling mags at W. Pa. Gunshows..... would have one from time to time ...... always pulled them out when he saw me coming.

See you at the Spring Bunching..... provided they don't close the Pa. Pike again!!!!!!!!

Do I need to save any mags for you ? The ones I was holding for you for the last bunch have been sold, but you know I have more.

A pic reference for this thread.

From the short time I had them, my recollection is that the early 3913LS magazines were seven rounds only because they used a spring with several extra coils at the top. That kept the eighth round from being loaded.

I swapped springs between an eight round with a plastic baseplate and the seven round with metal baseplate. I ended up with a metal baseplate magazine that would hold eight rounds and a plastice baseplate magazine that only held seven rounds.

The magazine bodies were the same length and as I recall, I was even able to swap baseplates.

I might have some pictures somewhere, but I'm not sure.

If you look at Oldman10mm's photo above, you'll see that the middle magazine (the one we seem to all be talking about) is slightly shorter than the one just to the right of it. My 3913 mags with steel baseplate (from S&W or from Kahr MK9) are the same mag as the 4th mag pictured.
Oldman10mm, are you able to photograph them without their floorplates on? It would be a great educational tool for us to have a pic, like above, of all five mags without their plate on.

As I recall, and my memory is a bit foggy, the difference in length was from the plastic baseplate, not the magazine body.

Just something to think about. If I ever come across one of the older ones at a gun show, I might buy it just because.
