Marketing 101

About three years ago, after Halloween the local Wal-Mart had some orange plastic Halloween buckets (I guess for kids to use for trick or treat) marked down to 15 cents each. We bought a dozen of them. They are not much larger than one gallon, but are surprisingly sturdy. And they are big enough to be useful for all sorts of things such as cleaning the shower, car washing, storage (I have several which are full of empty brass), carrying around tools in, whatever. I don't need any Yeti buckets.

Been using buckets forever!
And I guess taking them for granted, really haven't given them a lot of thought.
I guess I must bought some along the way, but pretty sure I didn't pay $40.
Got a lot of them for free at construction sites.

I used to get 3 and 5 gallon buckets with lids at most grocery stores that have a bakery in them. They get their frosting in them. So if they make birthday cakes they have buckets. Sometimes they want $1.00 for them and most times I had to wash the crusty frosting out of them.

That type bucket is just the thing for camping and especially canoeing. Its sturdy, stackable, water tight and it floats! :D
Back when I was a scout leader we had a guy who worked in a restaurant. When we would get ready to go canoeing, he'd bring in a bunch of them for the first timers. We also had a bunch stored in our shed. Heck, I've still got 4 or 5 out in my camping gear. ;)
Just contact some local restaurants and they'll probably give you some.
But $40? nah, I don't think so.

Forty bucks?

That's sad.

$40... sounds like a bargain compared to taking the wife out to dinner and a movie which costs twice as much and all I get out of it is indigestion and a two-hour nap. :D

Did you guys see LoadOut accessories?
LoadOut 5-Gallon Bucket Accessories | YETI
$30 lid.
$20 caddy
$40 gear belt
$50 tie down kit

Phil I read that and my brain committed suicide:( I could feel it explode. As far as the porta potty attachment for the bucket goes what works even better is a pool noodle. just slice it long ways, put a few crossways cuts in it so it bends easy and wrap it around the bucked and voila-:D

If'n ya'll don't use the pool noodle, you get a ring around a planet other than Saturn.

And they said P. T. Barnum is dead! I must be rich, as I have a couple of dozen plastic 5 gallon buckets and haven't got $40 invested in the lot. Every color of the rainbow and a few taller and shorter ones, too, in the 2, 3, and 6 gallon sizes plus a bunch of metric sizes. We use them for everything from birdbaths to tool carriers to planters and stepstools. One of the 6-gallon models makes a perfect deer stand post when topped with a camo padded seat from Tractor Supply.

I've got a stack of free buckets in my shed, when I see one, not squashed, on the side of the road or floating in the water I pick it up. If the wire bail is rusted I replace it with rope and piece of hose like someone above mentioned. I see the $39.99 versions at the local Academy they sure look nice but that would probably be the one I'd lose or have stolen.
Do YETI charge for those YETI stickers I see on the rear window of lots of pickups? that would really be a marketing coup, let people pay to advertise your products!!!

That's funny. Only buckets I get are from Napa for 10-20% off your purchase. Think the bucket is $3.

I have a cat, so I use Kitty Litter pales, they are pretty tough, they hold water, and dirt, store brass, grow tomato plants, and they are free and last for a long time. 40 bucks for a bucket?

Pop was a contractor,an immigrant and a product of the depression.I remember washing out drywall mud buckets cause they were free.A $4 homer bucket would have pissed him off.One of these...Mein Gott!! his head would have exploded!

Sadly, any I cant fathom why? they charge for the lids too? When a customer comes by buying both? I usually just charge them for the bucket throwing in the lid. As I'm allowed to freely give up to $50 on my own-I just throw in an occasional item-and lids are one of them. It pisses me off too.

Don't you see a lot of various colored Browning Buckmarks on vehicles? Folks pay for those too.

Since I have a pool and buy chlorine tablets, I have those with great locking lids. One is designated in the garage as a trash can, while another is dedicated for mopping the floor. The rest are for whatever a bucket is needed for.

If Yeti was smart, they'd market a toilet seat for the bucket and "specially designed" plastic liners.

Well, ya got to make something out of all those scraps and returned coolers.

Jest re-grind the material and injection mould a bucket....

.

Time to print me off a load of "Yeti" stickers and slap'em on the old paint and drywall buckets we fish out of construction site dumpsters. I'll sell 'em for 20 bucks on the corner across from the guy who sells those swanky Folex watches.

A very popular ice cream parlour nearby gives away their 2.5 gal pails. They are food grade and have lids. I picked up 10 and they were thrilled that I did.

A FEW FOLKS WITH HOLES IN THEIR BUCKETS, TO BUY YETI'S.

I've got a few stainless 2.5 gallon buckets from dumpster diving at a hospital. Truly amazing what they used to throw out when going to plastic/disposable. Heating up water in them while camping made for a nice hot shower.
