Hope all is well!

Just purchased a Model 442 after shooting a friends 642 with +P's...it was so nice I purchased one the next day! I liked his stainless but the black 442 just called my name.

Will be my carry gun for now.

Any 442 owners out there?

Thanks,

Josh

A 442 is riding in my pocket right now, as it always does. Mine is a pre-lock version, and had a Nelson Ford action job, butter smooth double action and a joy to shoot. It is so liggt, it is easy to forget it's there. It replaced my Model 60 for pocket carry (better draw from the pocket), although the 60 still sees use in a belt or shoulder holster. Great little friends!

When I bought my 442, the dealer had a 442 and a 642 to choose from. The 442 had the best trigger pull, so I bought it. My 442 is a pre-lock and is one of my favorites.

I picked up a 442 recently as well. I owned a 642 a few years ago and stupidly sold it. They had both models when I went to get another one. The black one was calling. They both had locks so not much I could do there but I just ground down the nub on the locking flag last night to disable it.

I have a recent 442-2 with out the lock that is very accurate. I keep it loaded with Speer Short Barrel 135 grain +P ammo which shoots right above the front sight for me.This load has also shot around 1" groups off hand at 7 yards. I would come up with some lighter practice loads for your gun and it will last alot longer. I have left in the factory springs and am just letting all the parts smooth up naturally with good lube inside. They are a fine piece to have and trust. Enjoy yours!!

I got one for my daughter (without the lock) a few years back. Very recently I replaced the stock mainspring and recoil spring with a Wolff reduced spring power kit. I installed the 13 lb return spring. In several hundred dry fires and about 50 rounds of live fire, I have not been able to "outrun" the return spring and the mainspring gives reliable ignition. It is a neat little revolver, perfect for pocket or in my daughter's case, purse carry. It isn't any fun for a prolonged range session, though. It is a gun with a very definite purpose.

Mine, an EDC & pre-lock, is from the early 90's and has a satin nickle finish. I practice w/it monthly and have no plans to get rid of it.

These are the best of the J Frame line IMHO.

Got one with the lock but it has not been a concern. I also have a 642 and I did a trigger job on it using Wolff springs. No need for the same with my 442. It is my carry by choice and goes with me almost everywhere. I carry with hollow points but practice with home made light loads. I normally use a Remora and a Tough Product for pocket carry but also have a nice leather belt holster...

I had an electroless nickel 442 for many years until my son talked me out of it to carry as a BUG on the job. A good reason to give up the gun, certainly. But I missed it so much that I recently got a 642 no lock. It shoots superbly, I currently only have about 50 rounds through it. I noticed, in looking at the photos, that the S&W logo is now stamped quite a bit higher on the sideplate on my new gun than previously. Carries quite nicely IWB style, and I often almost forget it is there.

I've had a no lock version for awhile. It's great to carry in my pocket when we go out to dinner and I'm dressed where a full size would be uncomfortable.
I love that little wheelgun!!!
My wears Crimson Trace laser grips also.

I have a 442 from 1994. It's had a trigger job, an 11 pound rebound slide spring and an 8 pound main spring. Goes with me everywhere, everyday. It's got a Laserlyte laser sight and a Pachmayr grip trimmed for speedloaders. I carry it either in a pocket holster or owb.

Let`s Face It. These are Sweeeet little pieces! Mine came through with the slightly bigger Uncle Mikes grips.
I carry it loaded up with the 135 Grain Speer "Short Barrel" +P Gold Dots.

I started with a 442 and carried it for about a year in a leather/kydex IWB holster. I chose it for what I thought was its less conspicuous dark color and what I knew was its easier to see (than stainless) black sights. However, I found that the crane would start to rust in a couple of days if I didn't wipe it down at the end of each day with a silicone cloth (crane and cylinder apparently are carbon steel - I would find little drops of moisture between the crane and frame at the end of a day's carry, and they would start rust spots if not wiped away.)

Other than that, the 442 (and the 638 I recently replaced it with) is a terrific carry piece - makes it super easy to never be without. And with a well-zeroed Crimson Trace grip it's a real tack driver.

My 442 is old and beat up from being carried. It's going to get older, and more beat up!

Faithful old 442 is my edc casual gun. Kahr PM9 for more serious concealed carry use.

Nice to see all the responses...

Wow...a lot of 442 (J-frame) fans out there, makes me feel even better than I did already! I will get some pics taken soon and posted.

According to the envelope inside it was built/finished 7-6-12, just 1 day after my daughter turned 10. I think when she's old enough to carry it will be with her if she wants.

It is my first S&W revolver…I'm very pleased with it and can't wait to buy a few more down the road.

Thanks,

Josh
