My New Critter - 627 Snubby

Thanks Dump .

No problem.

As HKS or Safariland don't make 8 rounders, I think these are the least expensive out there. I heard Thunder Ranch sells some, but they're something like $50.

I have both the Thunder Ranch and the 5 Star. Two different types.

The Thunder Ranch are more expensive, position sensitive but hold the cartridges much more securely and also deeper in the loader.

The Five star are more affordable but have a very loose feel to them and are not position sensitive.

By Position sensitive I mean the alignment of the loader relating to the frame side.

Hope this helps!

Thanks so much for this thread! Been a big help. Just ordered my 627 2 5/8" PC today and immediately ordered a 5 Star kit!

I received mine last week.

Your pictures inspired me to take some. I am thinking I might need to get your grips. :)

Well, we did it. The other day i went down to my local Gun Dealer & picked up a brand new 627 PC 8 shot N-Frame snubby. The Boot grips were a little small for my big hands so called S&W. Got the Grips which comes with the 5" 627. Lot better feel. My Ring & Little finger were just hanging off the Boot Grips. Now I can wrap the whole hand around the grip. If you're interested in the grip it is S&W SKU number: 414170000, and ran $49.00 from S&W. The S&W Logo seems like its burned into the wood. Then got into the IL. I really don't like the IL. Ordered "The Plug" from our friend John aka Bullseye Smith. Did a "lockadectme " and "Plug implant". Worst part was getting the 3 side plate screws off. S&W must have had a gorilla tighten them up at the factory. Got 'er back together & cranked off 50 rounds of Winchester 145 gr Silvertip HP 357 Magnums through it. The 627 snubby just didn't kick like my L-Frame 686 snubby on recoil. Guess it was the heavier N-Frame. Real good shooter. One of our forum friends "Cocked & Locked" here suggested the 5-Star Speedloaders. Lots of rounds, but they work excellent & the rounds stay in there well. The speedloaders are around $25.00 each. Saw where Thunder Ranch also has them, but they want $60.00 per speedloader. Too much. Heres a couple pictures of the new critter.
Thanks for looking.

Very Nice!! I really like the grips---great addition.
I've been out of the S&W loop for awhile---What's with the "Lock" hole?? It looks different.

I am really hot after one of these, set up just like you have yours. I have a question. What does this piece, fully loaded, weigh. It won't deter me. Just curious.

Many Thanks,

front sight profile

firewire...your gun looks to have the same profile Millet front sight as my pre-lock one has (pic below.) Seems like all the IL ones I've seen pics of have the different front sight like "exfebee's" has.

I've been carrying mine cross draw the last few days...love it!

Wow, good catch! You are right. Mine does look like your pre-IL.

Hmmmmmm......

Here are a few on GB I found. Two Ramped the same and two the other way. All advertised as New all with Internal Locks, one fluted.

Great looking 627's gents! :)

I'm debating one of these versus the PC 327 snubby with the Lothar barrel, which costs a bit more.

Also gotta say I like the fluted look a bit better, but all the current 627 PC models seem to be unfluted. They're both HOT though!
