My New Critter - 627 Snubby

The manual that came with the 627 shows a barrel inside the sleeve part. But then again it is probably a generic type manual. The extra weight on the 627 isn't that much of a difference. The grip adds about an inch to the bottom over that Boot grip which it came with.

627 PC

I like the fluted cylinder. I was thinking of sending mine back to have an extra fitted. Also changed the grips to Pachmayer compact grips like the ones on the Night Guards. Even with 357 Magnums its pleasant to shoot. Went back and ordered all three UDR's .357,.41 and .44 just waiting for the permits so I can pick them up. One of the LEO's ordered one for offduty carry he like the one I had so much.:)

In your first picture and your third picture, your 627 (which is awesome by the way) has it's cylinder open and swung out with your hammer cocked. How is that possible?

As you mentioned pics #1 & #3 had the hammer cocked back with the cylinder open. To do that first open the cylinder, then pull the cylinder release knob back & while holding it back just cock the hammer. You can release the knob & the hammer will stay back. BUT before you push the cylinder back in ALWAYS ease the hammer down while also easing the trigger forward. Be careful if you push the cylinder in first & the hammer is cocked back it will more than likely go off & fire that round. Good luck.

John you PM'ed regarding the Grips. They are S&W Product Code number: 414170000, & Just identified on the Invoice as: " N RD Walnut For Perf. Center "
Heres a little better close up view showing the Burned-In S&W Emblem. They ran $49.00 plus shipping.

Hello,

I recently purchased a M-627 Performance Center SKU: 170133 and love it.
I have a question, is the barrel a one piece or two piece. Thankyou

Answer:

The barrel is one piece.

Thank you. The manual which came with my 627 just showed as a 2 piecer- barrel & sleeve. But the manual - if you can really call it that - didn't have the model gun on it. You know like a Generic type manual.

Great photos, thanks for sharing. I have one of the original "Bloodwork" guns, which is essentially the same weapon W/O the IL. It is a really nice shooter, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have.

No problem Exfebee,

When I first picked it up I thought it was a 2 piece barrel too.

Love those grips. And they seem to be a very reasonable price.

That's one beautiful revolver! Probably my all time favorite with the fluted cylinders!

Appreciate the info here; I'm also patiently waiting for these to hit the 'list'.

lemeni and DCWilson,

I called S&W and was told the 627 and 629 snub nosed PCs had been submitted but the gentleman who answered the phone didn't know when they'd be added to the list. He said that it's not a "first in first out" set up there at the CA DOJ.

So next I called the CA DOJ. They were very friendly. She first came back and said she didn't see anything coming down the pipe, and that she'd call her person at S&W. I called again the next day and she said they were in fact headed our way, and she didn't know a date but said probably in a month or so. Unfortunately the 586 L Comp is not planned to be submitted.

So I went ahead and ordered one for $885. That's all I know, but I put my money down because these things are gonna disappear the second it gets on the list. They already seem to be drying up.

exfebee,

Maybe they ran out of unfluted cylinders and did a few with fluted? Ironically, Clint's 627 in Bloodwork is fluted.

I ordered 2 pair today; thanks for this info.

Great pictures!!! Any chance you could take a picture of the 627 Snub next to a J frame? I am really curious as to the size difference. I haven't seen the snub locally. (I know this thread is 6 months old too. :) )

Well, we did it. The other day i went down to my local Gun Dealer & picked up a brand new 627 PC 8 shot N-Frame snubby. The Boot grips were a little small for my big hands so called S&W. Got the Grips which comes with the 5" 627. Lot better feel. My Ring & Little finger were just hanging off the Boot Grips. Now I can wrap the whole hand around the grip. If you're interested in the grip it is S&W SKU number: 414170000, and ran $49.00 from S&W. The S&W Logo seems like its burned into the wood. Then got into the IL. I really don't like the IL. Ordered "The Plug" from our friend John aka Bullseye Smith. Did a "lockadectme " and "Plug implant". Worst part was getting the 3 side plate screws off. S&W must have had a gorilla tighten them up at the factory. Got 'er back together & cranked off 50 rounds of Winchester 145 gr Silvertip HP 357 Magnums through it. The 627 snubby just didn't kick like my L-Frame 686 snubby on recoil. Guess it was the heavier N-Frame. Real good shooter. One of our forum friends "Cocked & Locked" here suggested the 5-Star Speedloaders. Lots of rounds, but they work excellent & the rounds stay in there well. The speedloaders are around $25.00 each. Saw where Thunder Ranch also has them, but they want $60.00 per speedloader. Too much. Heres a couple pictures of the new critter.
Thanks for looking.
