Never mind. Post edited by original poster, no longer valid. I had no idea that a simple laser pointer could be illegal. It would probably require a suppressor and voltage limiter to be used in California!

I am not sure where you live but most lasers above a 5mw are illegal except for military and police. I would check your local laws before mounting it. I know a bout of website that sell 10,20,50,and even 100 mw lasers but they will not ship them to the states because of some laws. But if you can get it working, more power to you and don't get in trouble.
 
Class III and class IV lasers are legal if they employ FDA approved safety features (power interlocks, sequence activators, etc). I've mounted my 1Watt blue laser for grins.... burned holes in the target without even loading the gun :)
 
Well i will have to check with my laws, because Illinois blows and i have been wanting to put a high power green laser on my rifle(over 5mw), but i havent had the funds or knowledge about it.
