My 4 screw K-22 has a bad hammer. It's easy to find hammers for S&W K frame 22s, but the sellers don't know if their hammer will fit my pistol. Can anyone help me out on the differences between my hammer and the newer hammers? Is there any feature that I should look for? Or is there any difference between it and the later hammers?

Thanks,
Dan

Post war K22 hammers should all be interchangeable until they went MIM with Internal lock which I doubt will fit.
Pre war Outdoorsman hammers are long action and the 2nd model has a ledge which probably wont fit either.

The first post war 5 screws had the "High Speed' bent hammer spur type, your 4 screw should have either came with a standard width or a .50 wide target spur.

found this picture comparing some

Your hammer spur should be like either #2 or #3 going left to right.
The one on the far right is the style found on older 5 screw versions and is not correct for your 4 screw.
NOTE these are not rimfire hammers they have a hole with a firing pin attached but you already knew that Im sure.

Thanks for the info. Any post war will work, so all the hammers that I found would work! that is good news.
The hammer spur is like #2.

Thanks again,
Dan

Dan,
IMO any post war K22 hammer will work until they went to MIM cast parts .
Earlier style "high Speed" bent style K22 hammers will work but are not period correct.
Look for the style with a hammer spur just like the one on yours and of course K22 hammers have a frame mounted firing pin.
Best of luck.
