In 2013 NYS passed the Safe Act, now Law, that required once lifetime issued handgun permits to be “recertified” every five years.

Also in the law, so called “assault rifles” were required to be “registered”, with no mention of a five year recert on those. I believe the rate of compliance has been estimated at 5%.

Now the NYSP are demanding a five year “recertification” on those rifles registered the first time.

Does anyone think confiscation is not far behind? Looks like the 95% who didn’t comply were on to something.

Ugh!! Seems we are all headed for 3rd world domination by our own gov't. Welcome to Australia, Europe, Cuba, et al.,,,are machetes next?
I know I read recently there are places now where rental trucks are being restricted.

The law does not require recertification? That link claims it does. Does that mean the NYSP is flat out lying and creating law out of thin air? That is greatly disturbing...
 
This is pretty basic: Before firearms can be confiscated the authorities have to know who has them and what exactly they have. That's the reason they are pushing so hard for "Universal Background Checks and penultimatey Universal Registration. Once they get to that point "Turn them in or be arrested would be an easy follow on!".

They don’t really need registration or confiscation. Congress enacts a law, banning certain firearms. If you are still in possession of a prohibited item after the grace period, you’d be in deep, deep trouble if discovered.
 
I am curious if there any been any real door kicking gun confiscations? I know the ATF raided the brand dividians in Waco and there was the big shoot out but I haven't read much on the net about any owner resistance to the actual confiscation.

As I recall, it was one of the missions of the Chicago PD's "Special Operations Section" (S.O.S.) before they branched out into burglary, home invasion and kidnapping.
 
The orig SAFE act required re-certification of AW registration every 5 yrs.

It also required ammendment of the registration if the registrant changed address, name change, ph#, ect. and gave a certain # of hrs for the registered owner to notify NYSP if the AW was transfered OOS or sold to an FFL. (72hrs I believe)
Fail to do any of the above and it is grounds for revolcation of your AW registration and then confiscation of it.

It was all there, but was generally over looked by the NYSPistol Permit recertification and the NYSP ammo purchase background check at point of purchase plans announced at the same time that effected so many more people.
The latter as yet to be seen, but give them time. They have lots of time and lot's of $$.

Buried deep in the SAFE Act text:

.....40 section 9.46 of the mental hygiene law. All registrants shall recertify

41 to the division of state police every five years thereafter. Failure to

42 recertify shall result in a revocation of such registration.

43 (b) The superintendent of state police shall create and maintain an

44 internet website to educate the public as to which semiautomatic rifle,

45 semiautomatic shotgun or semiautomatic pistol or weapon that are illegal .....


Note that the demand to recertify an AW registration is under the States Mental Hygiene Law.
Not exactly where you'd expect to find such, But the Safe Act made changes to a great many laws,,Executive Law, Penal Law, Criminal Procedure, General Business Law, Corrections (sentencing) , Family Ct and others.
It takes a long walk through the entire text of the Act to find what it changed.

Norwegians to lose their semi-automatic hunting rifles. Scrap or Export!

According to the Swedish online hunting magazine called Jakt & Jägare, Norway is to ban some semi-automatic hunting rifles.
Before you read on, please note that the subject here is the new firearms legislation, not the politics behind it other than as an orientation.


Norway is not even a member of the European Union, but they seem to be following – and even prepared to go much further – than the EU Gun Ban that is going to be implemented in the rest of the EU in 2018.


The only good news is that the “wardrobe”, which allows the size of the maximum amount of rifles, is going to be extended from a maximum of 6 to 8 long firearms (rifle/shotgun). This may sound silly, but is already a fact in many EU countries.

Registration always leads to confiscation, Inevitably, invariably, unalterably.

If this becomes the case we simply put the gun away with no one knowing we have it and save it for a rainy day.....if it comes down to turn it in or not, that is what 95% of gun owners will do.....publicly own and use what is legal and put away the others until they are needed to protect oneself from enemies foreign and domestic. At that point who owns what will be the government’s least worry.

The somewhat accepted figure for membership in the NRA (including me) is in the neighborhood of 5 million. The more recent supposedly accepted figure for population of this country seems to be around 325 million. If so, NRA members seem to be something like less than 2 percent, I think like 1.65 ish. Do people really think it's just NRA members who have guns, or vote in favor of 2A legislation that supports our views?

I think we have far more firearm enthusiasts than the anti-gun crowd thinks we have, but it seems they still want to listen to those who go for the sound bites.
