Random Object Photographs

My alarm bladder went of prematurely this morning. After my dash to the loo I returned to find squatters had taken up residency in my spot.

LOL. Even without the pic I (or any cat person) would have guessed, "He must have cats."

Edited to add: Cats are thermotropic. They'll gravitate to any recently-vacated warm spot :)

The highest mountain in Germany is the Zugspitze, which is in Bavaria, on the Austrian border. I've been there four times, most recently last April, when these photos were taken...

I saw something moving around the fence this morning that caught my eye, thought it was a chicken rooting around at first. Second glance I saw it was Woody the woodpecker.

That's a Pileated. We have them up here (coastal BC) as well, along with the Hairy and Downy and flickers. Big, beautiful and LOUD :)

Just strolled around a new hotel here in Greenville SC, called The Grand Bohemian Lodge, and saw this nice rifle display, decorating the Library.

They also have an excellent collection of native American art on display.

Another interesting pic from my gf's amazing garden: a Chinese Python Snake Bean flower. The actual legume is enormously long (hence the name). They are often planted in long elevated horizontal lines but she planted it for the flower. She says it reminds her of one of Cher's exotic costumes in the '70s.

A few weeks ago, I posted photos here of Berg Eltz, a German castle which is about 900 years old, has never been damaged or destroyed-and-rebuilt, and which has been lived in by the same family for 33 consecutive generations.

Well, here's the other extreme...

Burg Baldenau is near the town of Morbach, in southwestern Germany, about 35 miles east of Luxembourg. It was first built around 1320...heavily damaged by the Swedes during the Thirty Years War some 300 years later...then rebuilt between 1649 and 1654...and finally destroyed by the French in 1689. It sat deteriorating until 1982, when it was designated an historic site, and some preservation efforts have been undertaken. It's the only castle in the region with a moat... :)

ZGrand:

Do you know if that place is still open? Some of what I see would tell me 'no', but other items indicate 'yes'.

Thanks for posting.

Regards,
Andy

Andy -- it was not open when I was there yesterday, and although I didn't ask any questions, I doubt it is used any longer. It may serve as somewhat of a museum for special occasions, but I'm just supposing.

I wish it was still in operation -- the price on the gas pump was 28.9 cents per gallon! :D

Here's a slightly different angle.
