Do you own that gun Kevin, or just the image? That's a sweet piece, and a great little bit of memorabilia. I'm surpirsed that Fitz didn't have the enscription done a little fancier, but then again maybe that just wasn't his style.

Unfortunately, as everyone on this forum knows that engraving one's name on a gun severly reduces is collectibility and value.

I will therefore offer $250 for the Smith, and $225 for the Fitz Special Colt.

Your best bet at discovering any history is a factory letter, unless you know to whom the gun might have been presented.
