Do you own that gun Kevin, or just the image? That's a sweet piece, and a great little bit of memorabilia. I'm surpirsed that Fitz didn't have the enscription done a little fancier, but then again maybe that just wasn't his style.

I don't own it but know who does. He gave me permission to use the image for an article I did a few years ago on Fitz Specials.

Jim Thanks for the Christmas present of history and beauty.
It is always amazing how one post can get so much info flowing. And on this forum a BS'r is quickly smoked out by so many experts..It makes for great reading as you know the sources are valid.

I like Fitz's and I'd sure be interested in reading that article. Was it in a magazine, book, or ? And is it available online?

Unfortunately, as everyone on this forum knows that engraving one's name on a gun severly reduces is collectibility and value.

I will therefore offer $250 for the Smith, and $225 for the Fitz Special Colt.

Where shall I send the money?

I have a gold plated mod36 that is claimed to have been plated at Col. Appegates request, to present to visiting dignitaries . Anyone know about these? Don
