Rifle for $299!

A little knowledge is often a dangerous thing. The original problem was an incomplete return to battery position of the bolt when the trigger was pulled. This was cured in the second ( I believe) year of production by the installation of a stronger recoil spring, which was painted blue to differentiate it from the original. Smith supplied replacement springs to owners of existing rifles.

More recent extractor problems have nothing to do with this.

No, not testy posters; just folks who know what they are doing ... :)
I acknowledged y'all were the experts, not enough.
I tried to explain my line of thinking, not enough.
Maybe it's just me maybe I am trying to be part of a group that just does not care to be welcoming ? But I think it would benefit all to be more welcoming & less belittling.
,
On a side note , when I came here with my problem no one said anything about out of battery firing may have caused the parts to come flying out of the bolt.
Those parts did include a spring.

Peace be with you & yours :)

No one is unwelcoming; you've been here long enough to realize that. :)

If you had an out of battery situation you would know it, just from the noise alone. Oft times poor cleaning around the extractor will cause is to bind in the slot and not slip over the rim of the cartridge. This can cause it to pop out of position. I'm not going to bother looking up your original thread, but I am pretty sure this was mentioned at least once in it.

I'm not really sure what your difficulty is, but I am sorry we evidentially have not been able to please you. Have a good weekend.

Great tip on this buy. And at $299, I can actually tell the wife what I paid for it.

Sales like this are great, but it goes to show how much some retailers must be making per sale. PSA isn't a small seller, but they're certainly smaller than a lot of retailers who are selling the 15-22 for far more than $299.

299 is almost 100 bucks cheaper than my distributor will sell them to me for. And that's the one without the threaded barrel.

Buy it.

I'd be all over it if they'd send me the "high cap" mags. But the mental deficients in charge of this state have determined that a .22 tubular mag is fine, but a detachable box type mag is evil as all get out. OMG, thank you! I feel SO much safer now!

I would be eternally greatful if my oppressive nanny state would "allow" me to own one. Buy it at $299? HELL YES anyone who can own one should.

I just brought another S&W 15-22 . Labor day sale at Palmetto ,sure love saving money . I was thinking of buy another one anyway, it pushed me over the edge. Total price was 316.99 with shipping to my FFL dealer. About 37% mark down. Was too good to pass up. Thanks mooneyb123 for the info.

Is this a good rifle? I just got into the gun scene so i know little about these things... kind of want to buy one

Apples and oranges to compare the two and "better" is subjective based on your wants and needs.
If you want a 22LR rifle that is accurate, reliable, and FUN to shoot then this is your rifle.

awesome thanks for the input I appreciate it

After struggling back and forth all weekend I purchased one if these Monday evening. I have no need for it, I already have a nice 10/22. I plan on giving it to my daughter in a few years. Ultimately I could not pass on it at that price. Now the real problem begins---not shooting it.

Big thanks to the original poster, this was a great deal
