I acknowledged y'all were the experts, not enough.A little knowledge is often a dangerous thing. The original problem was an incomplete return to battery position of the bolt when the trigger was pulled. This was cured in the second ( I believe) year of production by the installation of a stronger recoil spring, which was painted blue to differentiate it from the original. Smith supplied replacement springs to owners of existing rifles.
More recent extractor problems have nothing to do with this.

On a side note , when I came here with my problem no one said anything about out of battery firing may have caused the parts to come flying out of the bolt.
Those parts did include a spring.
