Sardines in mustard sauce

The Walmart Sardines that I claimed were from Arkansas are actually from Thailand.
These are in Hot Sauce.
The Thais know Hot Sauce!

My favorites used to be in mustard, but I figured the processors were only going to use the least expensive bulk mustard. I don't eat them as often as when I was younger, so now only buy King Oscars in extra virgin olive oil. I always eat them with one of several different blends of mustard/horseradish I use on other dishes. Once a month, or so, I treat myself to King Oscar kippers. Yum, Yum!! I tell my girl friend to stop frowning or I will have a large, double anchovy pizza delivered! I've got tomorrow covered too!

I just ordered a case of King Oscar Mediterranean sardines. I love kippers too

Sardines are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, but very low in mercury. So, it is a food that those who like fish should eat frequently. They tend to also be cheap. Get them in olive oil.

Omega-3 fatty acids balance omega-6 fatty acids, which can cause inflammation and arthritis. So you are countering arthritis and also hardening of the arteries by eating sardines.

Omega-3 fatty acids

Omega-3 fatty acids help prevent heart disease due to their anti-inflammatory properties. Sardines are an excellent source of them.

Calcium

Sardines are an excellent source of calcium. That makes them a good choice for those who are lactose intolerant, allergic to dairy, or need more calcium in their diet.

Vitamins

Sardines are an excellent source of vitamin B-12. This vitamin helps your cardiovascular system and gives you energy.

Minerals

Along with calcium and lots of vitamins, sardines contain a number of beneficial minerals. These include:

niacin
iron
potassium
magnesium
zinc
phosphorus
Protein

Sardines also have protein, which is essential for you to build healthy bones and muscles. Protein also helps create antibodies that keep our immune systems strong. As well, it takes nutrients and oxygen to all the parts of the body.
Screw all that nonsense. We eat them cause dey taste good!

Have eaten just about all of the canned meat delights.
The one I will never eat again is the delightful Redneck Pate -
Also known as Potted Meat.
Anybody still eat that?

I like smoked in oil best but can enjoy all of the flavors. Tomato sauce is my least favorite but they're OK.

Kippers are good in all flavors I've tried. High sodium.

Sardines from China are pretty bad plus I don't feel safe eating them. Most sardines from Asia are not so good.

The Aldi's brand is acceptable but I prefer their lightly smoked in oil version. I too find the ones from Europe the best.

I did have some from the Philippines that were tasty. They were described as fried sardines in black bean sauce. Doesn't sound good but they were. I have a can that says fried in miso sauce I've yet to try.

I'm very fond of smoked oysters but it's very hard to find any that aren't from China. I won't eat little filter feeders farm raised in that heavy metal pollution zone.

I had one can a while back that was from Washington State. Ekone brand Habanero flavored smoked oysters. Despite the habanero on the label they were only very mildly spicy. They were very, very good and certainly worth a premium price but they were around $10 a can and I can't do that. They were very good but I was sorry I tried them because that's the standard all are compared to now. But like I said, finding any not from China is hard so I don't eat them too much any more. My wife does order Crown Prince smoked oysters that are from Korea. They're pretty good. I just hope they're safer than those from China.

Yeah, I eat potted meat sometimes but I prefer the tastier version called deviled ham. Vienna sausages are good too but I'm choosy on the brand. Hormel is good Libby's is a no.

I do like pickled herring too. Both the regular and cream sauce. With crackers and port wine cheese spread.

I remember fondly the Gillette Cavalcade of Sports, Friday night fights. My Dad would enjoy his sardines, saltine crackers and PBR. Rocky Marciano and Sugar Ray Robinson were his favorites. I had RC Cola and sardines.

Dad's best friend would come over to watch the Friday Night Fights. A block of Limburger cheese, Dusseldorf mustard, Vidalia onion, dark rye and Hudepohl beer.

Mom stayed upstairs.

My pappy loved mustard sardine sandwiches. Said they would put hair on your chest. I prefer the tinned smoked baby oysters.

John
My old man liked them too, but he claimed they would put hair on the other end. In Mustad sauce is only way I buy them. We always had a can of sardines and a paper of soda crackers for fast snack hunting & fishing. You don’t see the new generation eating sardines. I guess if they made them with glaze or chocolate they might sell.

Just throwin in my bid on sardines, I love them in mustard, tabasco or just plain old olive oil. Smoked kippers also, pickled herring and what really grosses my wife out I actually like to drink my dose of cod liver oil cold from the fridge. Must be the scandihoovian blood.
