Hello Folks, I, along with perhaps many of us frequently like to 'update' our potential knowledge base regarding some of our favorite S&W Revolvers. So, in an attempt to do so with my current model of interest, I figured I would ask again here if perhaps someone has learned anything else pertaining to this somewhat uncommon M-64 example ?
As a brief background, I initially purchased many years ago as an exemplar to possibility interest my Department to adopt 'my' particular model as opposed to what we were currently using, which was the very same model, just with a few very useful, therefore important upgrades. This new M-64 was much the same as most of our newest purchases, but with the H.B. configuration, Round Butt & fully DAO. Well, although I had great expectations for this new model, it was not to be, as shortly thereafter we officially adopted an .40 S&W Sig-Sauer, so that was that ! ( I however was not unhappy at all, as I loved, & still do this DAO Model 64. )
Later on down the road I began to look into this somewhat uncommon model, & initially believed it was nothing more than an NYPD 'NY-1' Model, but I honestly don't feel that's what it truly is ? I then thought perhaps it was from the Brink's contract, but no, although quite similar, none of the Spec. Order numbers match up ?
Soooooo, if anyone happens to have any ideas as to what, or where this particular S&W Model 64-5 is, I would deeply appreciate hearing from you ? >>> The relevant data is as follows; M-64-5, 4" Heavy Bbl., Satin S/S finish, Round Butt with the standard S&W P.C. Service Stocks of the era, Factory Bobbed Hammer, & of course DAO. The numbers are; Serial # BET 1550, Product # 102505, Spec. Order # 0013. <<< I estimate the Manufacture Date as between December 1989 - February 1990.
Also, per the S&W Collectors Guide, 4th Edition, this model's S&W Product # is not noted. It's simply skipped over in the relevant list ? I would honestly love to know something more about this particular run, but have so far come up with literally nothing ? ANY information on this particular production run will be very much appreciated, no matter how trivial it may appear. As always, any & all replies will be truly appreciated. THANK YOU
