She Should Be Arrested For Butchering The Anthem

Technically, only his career is dead, but yeah, I agree.

The Super Bowl is just...........not for me any more. I can't describe my disgust with the whole affair without using profanity. It's just a football game which means NOTHING.

I saw the "new" Guns and Roses several years back on MTV? I think.
I commented to some people at work that it was a band that wasn't Guns and Roses fronted by some guy that used to be Axl Rose.

I have to agree with a previous poster who suggested a military choir or band play the anthem at these events. The "artists" think too much of themselves, that they will create a new version which will be a hit, and everyone will love, conceited fools!!
Todays example was a disgrace
Steve W.

From the teasers shown about the halftime circus I tuned out until football resumed. Have seen too many blinking idiots ruin the National Anthem.

Why not get someone from a church choir that knows how to sing and have to make it their song! Very disrespectful in my opinion!

If you guys actually do arrest her, but then can't decide what to do with her, you can drop her off at my house.

I don't think there is one person on this forum who could sing one line from our National Anthem in tune, Give the young lady a break. That is one hard song to sing. By the way, how many people on this forum can repeat every word from our Anthem?
Just my opinion,
Joe

I heard her sing the first 2 lines...then I had to change the channel. I just couldn't bear to hear any more. As someone mentioned earlier, it's gotten to the point that when they say, "And now, here to sing the National Anthem", I cringe as well.

I can repeat every word of the verse that is sung before ball games, and I know a dozen local people, both male and female, who could, and if given the opportunity, would have done a better, more respectful job than she did. She is supposed to be a professional. I'll not give her a break, because I don't believe the dignity and reverence that is supposed to be a part of rendering the Anthem ever entered her mind. She was just worried about putting on a show, and she screwed even that up, too.

I was reminded of the great Atlanta Braves announcer, the late Skip Carey's comment when someone did a particularly poor job of singing the Anthem before a Braves game. "They just played the National Anthem, and it lost."

Who ever was responsible for this character singing the National Anthem should go to jail....for life!

Among the many things I've done over the years, I've been a high school band director....back in the day.

The National Anthem is best played by a "military band" and it leaves absolutely no room for antics or clowning around.

If a vocalist....(and I use that term "loosely" here..) is to sing it, then there is only one way....just the way it was written. There is absolutely no room for "artistic interpretation"....(and I use that term loosely....very loosely.)

We have arrived at a new low in this country. People just have no idea of what is or is not proper. They have absolutely no sense of class or decorum. All common sense and decency seems to have been bred out of them. We've got kids today that think that this "is the way it is done." We are a society in decline....er ah...no..."free fall."

Holy Toledo Jones!

We need to get a hold of the reigns of this country and pull it back into shape! It is completely out of control.

God save the republic.

No offense, but IMO that's a load of bilge water.

No one here is even talking about her singing ability. Rather, it's the "style" in which she chose to sing it. It was disrespectful and ridiculous.

Furthermore, I agree with redlevel...I certainly know all of the words to the National Anthem, and I've no doubt that I could do a better job than was demonstrated at the Super Bowl tonight. What's more...she's a professional, collecting a large check I imagine, and more is expected of her.

She made it all about her, not patriotism. Made me cringe.
And during that caterwalling, #99 of the Steelers did his best to disrespect the flag and our country too.

That was the most horrendous and IMO disrespectful singing of our National Anthem since Roseanne Barr butchered it on a baseball diamond!!!

She made it all about her and not about this great country by making it almost unrecognizable with all those added notes and flourishes. Horrible is too kind of a word.

When Whitney sang it in 1991 at Superbowl XXV, I had tears in my eyes from the patriotism that rang out in her voice. This is how it should sound!

I had tears in my eyes last night as I saw our anthem destroyed on national TV.

Just can't beat Whitney Houston's rendition of our anthem.

The worse halftime show I have ever seen and I have watched them all.

I didn't think it was very good either. But some of you guys act like she's the first to butcher the song. It's been getting worse every year. Not only at the Super Bowl but at other events too.

They are a little before my time but I would rather have listed to a more traditional rendition done by Perry Como, Andy Williams, Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra etc........

Or maybe Harry Connick Jr or Michael Buble.

Anyone of them would have been better.

To think of all of are service man and women risking their lives and limbs overseas for this great country and have a bimbo like here give such a embarrassing rendition of the National Anthem is a Disgrace.

What is with all of this warbling, and singing the same words twice because she left some out. Terrible,Terrible,Terrible.

You took the words right out of my mouth!

Francis Scott Key is spinning in his grave right now...
