I have had my sigma for about a month and put a couple hundred rounds through it. I honestly like it. Last week I shot a friends beretta and glock 19. I did not like the way the glock felt, but I could see myself with the 92fs. I think the gun has a bad reputation, it's not perfect of course no gun really is.

I would consider buying another in .40 in the future. For warm weather carry I would consider something like an LC9.

Am I wrong in my thinking?

i was thinking about getting a lc9 or something smaller than mine 9ve for warm weather carry. maybe a compact 1911 wit 3'' barrel then again i have only had my sigma since november so it might work out for me once it get hot. ill have to wait an see. and as far as the bad rep, the trigger pull is the only thing that people say bad things about. IMO i like the trigger, i know that the gun will only fire if my finger is on the trigger and i pull, not when im carrying

I have both the 9VE and the 40VE and love them both. I bought the 9VE first and then the 40. They are both great, a lot of people give the Sigma a bad rap, but I beleive that 99% of them have never even held one. As for your carry question, I carry my 40 on a daily basis and have only once been stopped and asked if I was carrying. They are a little harder to CC but they really do not print to badly. I use the Blackhawk Paddle holster for my everyday carrying.

I love my Sigma. I think the Sigma has great ergonomics, it really fits my hands. The LC9 will be my next CCW firearm.

I was talking to one of our vendors the other day. He has a verity of firearms, and he stated his sigma 9 was his favorite to shoot.

I wanted a Sigma 9mm last Feb when they were on sale locally but they were out of them. So I got the 40 instead. Great shooting gun. Fits my hand like a glove. Very accurate for me. They went on sale at a local sport shop a couple of weeks ago and I was able to get the 9mm I originally wanted. It too is an excellent weapon that I enjoy very much. I think it is the most gun you can get for the money!

Coke is better than Pepsi
Chevy is better than Ford
Blue is the best looking color...........

There's no right or wrong here. It's your OPINION that matters when it's anything concerning you. As I've stated in previous threads, my fellow Officers all have their preferred make and model. All of those preferred weapons are costlier and fancier than my humble little Sigma. Yet, I outshoot the majority of them....to include several of our tactical guys and most of the firearms instructors. I'm not boasting, I'm just trying to illustrate a fact. If your comfortable with the weapon then you will excel with it. The Sigma will not degrade good handgun technique. A $1200 custom 1911 will not compensate for bad handgun technique.
And concerning concealed carry, I carry my Sigma every day. Nobody ever realizes that it's there. They conceal just fine.
Now hit the range and practice, practice, practice brother!! You may actually need it someday!

I think 99% of the Sigma's bad rep comes from the people that don't actually own one. It's just bad info passed along from one person to another. Perfect example of this, I was at my local gun store a few weeks ago and overheard the sales guy trying to talk a customer out of buying a Sigma 9VE and get a Ruger P95 for $30 more. Nothing wrong with Ruger but, he tells the customer that the ruger is WAY more gun than the Sigma. He says the Ruger will be more reliable and last longer, not to mention it has a manual safety. The customer is hanging on his every word. Didn't hang around to see what the guy purchased but I'm sure that he now thinks that the Sigma is probably junk and will relay this info to all his friends. I mean hay, the sales guy told him so and he knows everything there is to know about handguns, right?

I love my Sigma 40VE and I have a bunch of different handguns including a Glock 23. The Sigma is SO much more comfortable to shoot compared to the Glock. But that's just my own opinion. Both guns have been reliable and are accurate but the grip of the Glock which cost $200 more doesn't work for me. The bottom of the trigger guard indents a bit right where it meets the grip. It's not quite big enough for my middle finger to rest in while shooting. It rubs funny on the joint in my middle finger and hurts after a mag or two.

Anyone I have ever let shoot a few of my guns, they always comment on how well the Sigma feels in their hand compared to any others. I always say yup, and you too can get one for only about $300! Good, reliable, affordable handguns. No need to spend over $500 or a lot more but that's up to you.

Heres a question from a new shooter (SW40VE)....sorry if its been asked 100X before, but i didnt see it...

what is considered a half way decent grouping at 25'?
I am trying to put 50 rounds a week through just to make sure I can reliably hit the side of a barn (assumeing I am inside it). I am hopeing to be at LEAST in the 3-2" area by 500rds....

Yup
I like my 9ve as well . Yes I have asked about the trigger pull But after reading the replys and a couple of thoughts . I am happy . The only thing I am doing to it is adding night sights but that is becuse I do not like white dots . Hard to see for me . Nice looking gun fits my hand well and fun to shoot . This is also my carry gun. Nothing wrong with this gun at least for me. Just would like to find a comfortable IWB holster for it . I have a leather Don Hume but just feels to bulky really nice well made holster though .

I think anyone that has shot on a regular basis, and has experience with revolvers, won't be bothered too much by the trigger.
Is it heavier than most other DA/SA out there? yes.
but would you really want a light trigger in a handgun where the safety is in the trigger? probably not.
we did the trigger mod to reduce it by a few pounds and I'm happy with it.

targets with the Sigma, after porting the barrel.
this was my 2nd time shooting it, with 12 rounds.
the 2 first shots were just test ones, purposely off on the side.
(15 yards target)

Try the Remoras Holster, this is the only line we carry at our gun shop. the sell between $25-30 and they are IWS without clip, they are retention holsters and once you've gone "Remora" you wont look back :)

I went gun shopping this past weekend with my son. We are both interested in the Sigma and I asked the owner of the first store we visited if he had any we could look at and his reply was that he doesn't carry the Sigma because "it is junk". I gently attempted to get some more details about that from him but he didn't have any specifics to say about them other than his 'junk' comment. He had Glocks, Springfield XD, etc but actually NO Smith and Wesson autoloader models so I suspect he was saying they were junk because he didn't have any to sell. Went to 2 other gun shops and one was sold out of them and the other only had one .40 cal and no 9MM in stock. My son lives in Ohio and found a decent deal on the 9MM Sigmas at a gun show a few months before he was ready to purchase so he is hoping to find that same deal again at the end of this month. I might have him pick one up for me 'as a gift' and bring it home. :)

the gun is far from junk i have AGI's armorers course of the glock on dvd and robert dunlop, if you have seen anything from agi he is very knowledgeable and been a gunsmith for 30 years, he has a sigma to compare with the glock and says that s&w improved the trigger system of the glock. it might be heavier so what... if you watch this course and you know your sigma you see its almost the same gun as the glock... so why would someone say the sigma is junk if they put the glock on a pedestal? that would be saying the glock is junk

Yeah, when I left that gun shop I was convinced that this particular shop owner had other reasons for bad-mouthing the Sigma. Maybe he didn't carry them because the profit margin was too low on Sigmas as this guy is not the best-priced shop in the area. He seems to run about $30 higher than his competition but he was the nearest shop to my home so I stopped there first. When I finally got to hold a Sigma at the final shop we checked that day, it felt really nice in my hand. I had my retired cop buddy with me and he liked the Sigma a lot. He even said it felt better to him than an SW SD model that we also tried. I liked them both but I liked the price tag on the Sigma better! :) I also took into consideration that the other two shops carry the Sigmas but the one shop was totally sold out and the other shop was down to just one .40 cal model left. That tells me that Smith must be selling a lot of them.

The Sigma has to be in the top 5 as best bang for the buck semi-auto.imo I can't find any reason a gun shop would call the sigma "junk". He must be one of those glock "nut swingers". I'm not saying the Sigma is end all be all, but I do know S&W took the time to form a frame that actually fits a humans hand. Unlike glock who drew a frame on a 2x4 and cut it out with a jigsaw.

slong. You should go back to that first shop and ask that glock nut swinger . Why can't glock make anything besides a plastic pistol?
