I think 99% of the Sigma's bad rep comes from the people that don't actually own one. It's just bad info passed along from one person to another. Perfect example of this, I was at my local gun store a few weeks ago and overheard the sales guy trying to talk a customer out of buying a Sigma 9VE and get a Ruger P95 for $30 more. Nothing wrong with Ruger but, he tells the customer that the ruger is WAY more gun than the Sigma. He says the Ruger will be more reliable and last longer, not to mention it has a manual safety. The customer is hanging on his every word. Didn't hang around to see what the guy purchased but I'm sure that he now thinks that the Sigma is probably junk and will relay this info to all his friends. I mean hay, the sales guy told him so and he knows everything there is to know about handguns, right?
I love my Sigma 40VE and I have a bunch of different handguns including a Glock 23. The Sigma is SO much more comfortable to shoot compared to the Glock. But that's just my own opinion. Both guns have been reliable and are accurate but the grip of the Glock which cost $200 more doesn't work for me. The bottom of the trigger guard indents a bit right where it meets the grip. It's not quite big enough for my middle finger to rest in while shooting. It rubs funny on the joint in my middle finger and hurts after a mag or two.
Anyone I have ever let shoot a few of my guns, they always comment on how well the Sigma feels in their hand compared to any others. I always say yup, and you too can get one for only about $300! Good, reliable, affordable handguns. No need to spend over $500 or a lot more but that's up to you.
