So what are folks in New York State to do with their guns?

I hope local law enforcement grows a set and takes a stand for themselves and the rest of their law abiding neighbors and simply state that they will not enforce any such laws in that state and stick it to the idiot governor and his cronies.

More than one County Sheriff has come out against the so-called "Safe Act".

Write to firearms mfgrs. and also ammo suppliers ask them to refuse to sell to LE in the most anti-gun RADICAL States passing Laws
start with New Jersey.

Massive non compliance is a viable option, should we lose this battle legally.
TJ[/QUOTE]

Hopefully it wont get that far. I hope we are not seeing the beginning of a revolution and I am more worried about far right gun owners than the government. If I become an outlaw, what kind would I be? A bit worried about that too.

One thing that seems certain is that the Piers Morgan Group is not interested in anything short of total bans and turn-ins, i.e. confiscation. They want a fight and I think they're gonna get one.

The other thing that is certain is that civil non-compliance will be my first option if I were faced with the failure of the "legal system". The law in my state says I can grow and use marijuana while the feds say it is outlawed and that growing and selling it is a felony. So which law is right? Whose gun law will be "right" when all of this is settled? Right

Do you suppose Piers Morgan knows that the violent crime rate in England is about 4 times the violent crime rate of the U.S. It's probably a good thing they are disarmed and unable to hurt each other. Now if they would just stop running while carrying scissors (round nose).

I do not think non-compliance is a wise move.
Anyone caught and prosecuted would be in for a world of hurt, including what could be a permanent loss of all 2nd Amendment rights, even if you move to another State.

Even in Canada the non-compliance rate was rather high. I would expect it higher yet in the USA. Yes, slightly different as to the type of firearms, same idea though.

Any forum members from NY attend the gun rally in Albany today?

I did and feel it went great. I posted in another forum that the local news casts were reporting that there were 5000 people there but there were twice that. Over 100 buses of patriots from around the state! Speaker after speaker exposing the "Safe Act" for what it is. David Keene, the president of the NRA spoke and it was hosted by Tom King, an NRA board member and president of the New York State Pistol and Rifle Association.
The Governor was out of town stating we were the "vocal minority" confirming my suspicion that he is "out of touch."
It was a good day to recharge your batteries with like minded patriots for the comming battles.
Thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers. As been stated previously our fight here in NY will determine the fight you will have to wage in your home states. If you want to help us you most certainly can join or donate to the NYS Pistol and Rifle Association on line. They along with NRA backing have already filed a notice of suit against NYS.

Civil disobedience? Maybe when I was young, single and could care less but you think folks with high paying jobs and families to support will risk that? Great to talk the talk but how many will really walk?

There was a really good story I think in the Shotgun News about such a scenario where all the guns were hidden in a cave for years, generations until it was passed down one to many times and the young person finally ratted out the whole family. It was scary. Kind of a George Orwell or Fahrenheit 451 kind of story. If someone remembers that story please link it if available.

The options for the good people of NY aren't good. Absent repeal of the law, either register the AR or keep it hidden in a closet (cave) forever.

When I was thinking about getting a silencer I debated whether I should get involved in ClassIII due to the registration requirements. I decided it was better to have a registered can than none at all. A lot of people disagree and won't do it.

When I think of "civil disobedience" I think of taking open public action rather than passive "non compliance". My guess is that there will be massive non compliance (not registering) but near zero civil disobedience like putting an unregistered AR on your shoulder and attending a public gun rights rally. I watched a vid of the attendees at the Albany rally yesterday. A gun rights rally with no one carrying a long gun other than painted guns on banners... a bit Orwellian. The good people of New York are well served by those like Len who took the time and effort to attend the rally. Well done!

This is a national issue that we all need to pay attention to Quoted from OLDFED

This is very true. This is why I have such animosity for CA. and NY because they seem to think (have the mindset) that whatever they say or do should be for the entire country. They seem to have an air of superiority and this is really a shame especially since is it mostly due to only one or two cities in these states and the rest of these states are pretty level headed.

Yes I was there. Here is an edited for S&W forum reply I posted to another forum I'm on. (Car forum)

I had my wife drop myself and son off right at Swan Street. We got there at 11AM and there were lots of people there already. People kept coming at a steady pace.

From where we were standing could see lots of tour type busses moving along in the bumper to bumper traffic. We stayed till 2.30 and then walked to where my wife could pick us back up without a traffic problem.

Now the day was drizzly overcast and only a few minutes of sun peaking out. As large as that crowd was a good bet would be much bigger if it was a better day there would be lots more people there.

As Cuomo was talked about a lot about it was mentioned about him wanting to fix the cop restriction and allow the hollyweird types to have more rights than just regular NY citizens. Many people said that that should be voted down if/when it comes up. I know a lot of our legislatures heard this. My concern is that considering how narcissistic Cuomo is that he will try to add even more stupid restrictions at an "amending" time.

This discussion makes me think about the civil disobedience, marches, protests and sit-ins that occurred during the 1950's and 1960's about civil rights and the double standards for black folks and white folks. They protested about unfair and immoral state laws. The active protesters were basically a minority even among the colored, but they were very vocal and stirred up tons of publicity. They staged sit-ins and many were arrested and roughed up by the police but they stood by their convictions. We all know what the eventual outcome was though it was quite a fight to achieve it. I wonder how many gun owners are willing to put into actions what they are all talking about.

Now this is just thinking out loud; I don't have a real solid plan of action. You could say that I, living here in Texas and not having to put up with this abomination that New Yorkers do, am just shooting off my mouth. You might be right. Truth is, if we don't do something, this liberal poison will spread to other states sooner or later.

My prayers are with you, whatever you do.

I went down to the rally (3-1/2 hours ea. way). It was very well attended We say 10-12k, they say 5k people. It was well in excess of 5000 and I'd say way closer to 10,000 or more. Peaceful but powerful.

The demographic as strongly male 30-65 but there were many women and younger kids. I went with an architect a cpa and an insurance underwriter. Some camo but not as much as I'd have thought. Everyone was amazingly polite. I honestly don't know if there were 5 or 5000 folk carrying concealed. I saw no trace or prints anywhere. Didn't ask and no one said. I did not.

The speakers gave me some hope that we are not alone in our fight. The state delegation and the pro gun folks need us as much as we need them. I will fire off some emails of support and thanks to a handful that I know this weekend. It was nice to see a couple of Democrats denounce the law and how it was presented and rushed through.

I wouldn't say I learned a lot about the law but I learned a lot about the people of the state and our representatives in Albany. We are a diverse and passionate bunch who understands our rights and will fight to maintain and retain them.

The local LE had a small presence mostly traffic from what I saw. The State Troopers had a sort of perimeter around the park. You could tell they were very much at ease with the crowd. They were also extremely polite and helpful.

Interestingly, our way out of Albany took us back by the park. Within a half hour of the rally ending the grounds were as clean, if not cleaner, than they were at 10:30 that morning. No one was loitering, no one had taken up residence and no one left a mess.

In all we were much more civil, law abiding and courteous than those who rammed it through the legislature.

It was a very strong start.

NYlakesider,
It speaks volumes about our Governor that the first attempted amendment to this law by him and Sheldon Silver does not address any of the LEO's being exempt from these restrictions but rather hollywood crews being able to use banned weapons in their movies!
You can't make this stuff up.
