SW Forum Med Advice. What could possibly go wrong?

I have avoided the flu this season so far. I did get the shot. There were two versions of the shot this year. One had 3 strains, the other had 4. I got the 4 strain version. Might as well get as much protection as possible.

I haven't had the flu in about 20 years. I do get the shot every year since I'm surrounded by sick people every day.

The point is:

How often have you been totally satisfied with an initial treatment for anything? If you've ever had to go to Emergency, how long did you wait for treatment while writhing in agony? How long a wait for routine visits? Are the receptionists competent and polite? Were the PAs and nurses competent, stand-offish, know-it-alls, don't listen to what you have to say? Do the docs listen, or have they got a God complex, as many do? Is your individual physiology (Yes, we're all different in some way.) taken into consideration? Have you ever had to undergo revised surgery after a fail?

These are not hypotheticals, they are from personal experience.

I am not saying to avoid going in for medical treatment... far from it. I'd be dead a few times over were it not for modern drugs and surgeries. What I am saying is that you have to be one lucky person to get everything squared away with only one trip to the medicos for any particular problem.

I guess that some people just can't extrapolate from shorthand smart-***ery sarcasm?

It's always my fault... just ask anyone. :D

I remember the owner of a car forum I go in being angry with his brother. His brother was found hunched over his key board, gone from a heart attack. He was Googling heart attack when he passed instead of calling for help. After that he told all members not to ask medical questions in the forum and see a doctor instead.

YES

I'd trust medical advice from the folks who frequent this forum over what I've seen and heard at a lot of hospitals and Dr.'s offices.

Take care of yourself. The flu is rough stuff.

If you are heeding the advice of a basically ( medically untrained) receptionist,(that thinks she's a surgeon) at your doctors office, maybe.
Save the doctors advice for your automotive questions.

OH YEAH!

It goes something like this: a medical emergency arises, first thing to do is deny it. Next step is to call everyone on your phones contact list for advice, then begin the interweb searches. IF the person is still alive at this time, MAYBE call for an ambulance. I'm not saying that medical errors don't happen, THEY DO, just like in any other profession. Some people are not fond of Lawyers, cops, bankers, insurance etc. etc. AND many people "in the med field" just can't say I DON'T KNOW, & make stuff up rather than admit they don't know. IMO, get legal advice from a lawyer, med advice from a doctor (NOT HIS STAFF), & car advice from an auto mechanic. :)

Medical advice on this forum just might be better than some think. There are probably enough not so young folks here that proves the doctors can get it right more than a few times. My field of expertise is broken bones, plates, screws and stitches.

Hmm, going on about 6 years now.
If I had listened to my doctors advice, I'd be sitting in a nice shiny electric wheelchair, happy as a clam all hopped up on narcotics right now.
But noooo! I went and ignored him and spent a year relearning to walk using the muscles that still work. Now everyday's filled with calorie counting, planning exercises and waiting for warmer weather so my wife and I can go out shooting, hiking, biking and camping in the area mountains.
And the people on this forum backed up my decision to ignore my Neurologists advice.
When will I ever learn?

That's a problem with the Not-Being-Dead-Yet syndrome. For some things may take a drastic change for the worse and serious complications can develop. It's best to seek professional medical aid regardless of the risk.

Having said all that. I'm on day 7 and much improved. My appetite is slowly comming back. Feeling much much better. I still get run down quick. If it tries a comeback, I will see a doc. Considering returning to work maybe Monday.
