Taylor Swift? I don't get it

Taylor Swift, is making her way onto the University of Florida campus. Well, a class centered around analyzing her clever song lyrics is.

Starting in the spring of 2024, UF will offer Musical Storytelling with Taylor Swift and Other Iconic Female Artists through the honors department. The course will be taught by Melina Jimenez, an associate instructional professor at the university.

This course is not the first of its kind. New York University, Arizona State University and others offer similar courses that incorporate Swift into the curriculum. Jimenez decided to bring this enchanting concept to UF after taking a Taylor Swift writing workshop over the summer.

Little of her music appeals to me. I pity the dudes that date her, as she seems ... a bit off. However, one cannot critique her understanding of a market and appealing to that market. She is very successful in every fiscal dimension as far as I know.

I personally think she has it all together with her music, presentation, threads, dresses, content in her videos, looks, and all in her music career.
She sings a little fast sometimes for my understanding, but so does most everyone else. She's creative, and I wish her well in her off-stage life. Surrounded by good musicians and crew. Life is good.

My takeaway from this thread, was a reminder that no matter how cute a Gal is, singing in German, should be illegal.

Makes sense that they drink large amounts of Beer, as it dulls the auditory senses. :D
That's why Bach left writing operas to the Italians.
Beethoven only one..... take a listen.

Swift's a product of the current generation, much like Madonna was a product of mine. Now, like then, media fuels it.

I don't know much about Swift, have no interest in popular music, couldn't name a song of her's if my life depended on it, but good for her!

I just listened to some of her songs...

I've been curious about her myself. I know that young girls are crazy about her and I wonder if any boys are, too. She sings/talks in about a half-octave range. At least she sings about fairly normal stuff and doesn't seem to be negative in any way. I wouldn't have paid (or have been able to pay) the thousands of dollars that people are paying to go to her concerts.

I cannot say emotional stability is a requirement for artistic expression.
I have a vast collection of W.A.S.P. By no means would one accuse Blackie Lawless of being fit for making critical decisions for others.
A road trip just isn't up to regulations without at least something from the last command.

Many things seep into my playlist. New, old ... things missed from yesterday. Avril Lavigne's Hello comes to mind.
But what "pop" music seems to have the greatest success at gaining my attention tends to be from obscure, non industry, sources.
Like this girl ... Julia Westlin.
She needs at least these two things.
A puppy for emotional support between releases.
And a larger fan base.

Agree

Bubblegum pop they used to call it. I have way less than zero interest in her music or what she does. But she's doing it right for the young crowd that likes her so good for her.

Again, from Forbes:

"Some 45% of avid fans are millennials, people between the ages of 27 and 42, while 23% are baby boomers, 21% are Gen Xers and just 11% are members of Gen Z—those 26 and under.

A slim majority, 55%, of avid Swift fans are Democrats, compared to 23% who are politically independent and 23% who are Republicans.

Her fanbase is evenly split across genders: 48% is male, and 52% is female, according to the survey."
