The elusive 27s and climbing values.

27-2 with Kuracs

Love the Gun, Love the Stocks - I am very Jealous

Because they don't really care about making their old line up anymore. The current generation likes plastic, stainless steel. Fantasy football, and twitter. We are dinosaurs.

That is definitely a sign of our times. The market for high quality revolvers today is fairly limited.

I do have a Model 27 Classic and I'll believe y'all if you say it's not the same thing as the earlier guns. But the opportunity presented itself a few years back, the price was EXCELLENT, and back then I wasn't hanging around this campfire and didn't KNOW what I know now. But for under $700 bucks at an MSRP of $1000 I'd have bought it anyway. It's a gorgeous gun and shoots like a dream.

That said I just dont find myself packing and shooting it much. I did at first. It`s a big heavy gun.

Totally true - no way I could do it if it had to be concealed.

I wonder why s&w didn't put the key lock on the hammer spring?

Lock or no lock makes no diff to me. Someday as the values go higher the IL won't matter anyhoo. As my lgs offered the brand new s&w n frames in nickel for $699 you would refuse them either. I didn't. I purchased the last ones in nickel and three are no longer being manufactured. Action wise they feel just as good as my older Smith's do.

I purchased five s&w in 357 in about six weeks. As my very dependable and trustworthy online dealer listed them.

I like the s&w m28 as much as I like the m27.

I like the 6"/6 1/2" barrels more than the shorter barrels. I like the m58 / 4" maybe the 4" barrel will grow on me.

I saw a 27 (-2 I think) today, 3.5", electroless nickel. S&W wood Target stocks. Didn't get a pic of it. They were asking $1,500. It was very nice but out of my budget.

Oh, I guess if anybody's interested they can PM me and I'll tell you where it is.

I think the only two finishes offered were Blue and Nickel.

Satin is most likely an after
market custom job.

Has anyone noticed GB sales seem to go down at the end of the month?
I could be wrong.

I saw a nice looking nickel 27-2 with 3 1/2" barrel go for $1000 about 3-4 weeks ago on GB. And I went and invested in an ANIB (unshot) 50th Anniversary of the 357 27-3 around the same time, which makes a nice counterpoint to my original nickel 27-2 I bought new back in 1974. The 27-3 is just gorgeous and after polishing her up with some Ren wax I hid it from myself for a while so I won't go shooting it. Now my old 27-2 still regularly goes to the range with me, along with a Coonan Classic for some real fireball action. It's fun to bring a wheelgun and an auto to the range that shoot full bore 357's.

Now to see about finding me a model 29 for a not too unreasonable price. It also has to be a shooter, as the 27-3 is the only "looker" I plan to own. I'm not too fond of the MIM and especially the big hole in the side, but would like to get one from the 90's that has the endurance package. I looked at a new 29 Classic (6 1/2 barrel) at the LGS, but wasn't too impressed with it, especially since they were asking over $1000 for it. For that kind of money I can buy a 29-5 and a bunch of ammo.
