The New Coffee Maker

If I have time in the morning, my preferred method is to use a Farberware Stove Top Perc. When I'm pressed for time I use a Presto Electric Perc. which is faster. When my wife makes the morning coffee, she uses the electric perc. too as she does not have the patience to wait for the water to boil in the Stove Top Perc. We have been using Columbian Peaks, 8 o'clock coffee for years now and that is truly our favorite.

We are NOT fans of the one cup coffee makers like the Kuric and clones and we never cared for the "Mr. Coffee" style of makers as they never produce a really hot cup of coffee.

We only drink Starbucks French roast whole bean that I get from Costco.
$14.00 or $15 for 2.5 lbs when on sale. Fresh ground every morning made in a Mr. Coffee that has a carafe.
Filtered water and starts my day right...... :)

So, since you say “only,” when you travel, do you abstain, or just insult the coffee provider?

My dad used to make campfire coffee with the old black metal pot. Half full of water and a generous handful of coffee with an egg shell. Good old river water brought to a full boil. Pretty good stuff. I'm a bit softer, I grind Kona coffee from the Hawaiian Kona Island, bold but not bitter. Dad would probably be embarrassed.

During my working life I spent over 40 years drinking coffee from a vending machine. Now, I wouldn't recognize good coffee -regardless of what maker it came from.
There have been times when cheap, weak coffee in a styrofoam cup was the best I ever had. Wouldn’t take a million bucks for it, but wouldn’t give a dime to do it again.;)

We use a Melitta Aroma-fresh here in the UK. Its got a built in bean grinder or you can use it with pre- ground. I am hoping we can find it's equivalent in the States when we return. We drink a lot of coffee and I have become accustomed to dark roast Starbucks. We have had a couple of Bunn coffee makers that we really liked in he past. We have tried the K-Pods at our daughters. I thought they were ok but not as good as fresh ground and the cost for the amount we drink is prohibitive. I have 3 cups before heading to work then at least 1 to 2 when I am home. My wife drinks about the same so we really tear through coffee. Interesting too is the fact that we get Starbucks here in the UK for 1/3 the price we pay in the USA. We will likely switch brands when we return. Starbucks in a 250g bag is just about $3.00 here and between $9 and $11 in the USA. One of the very few things that is less expensive in the UK.

French press, dark roast Sumatra, my coffee perfection.

Substitute dark roast Kona coffee instead of your Sumatra and that's my idea of perfection. I really like the Kona, but damn it's expensive. The French Press is the way to roll if you want some great coffee though.

I'm not too fussy about coffee. As long as it's fresh and reasonably good I drink it. I have a Keurig and currently am using Sam's Clubs Donut House. I picked up a 100 count box of pods for about $30. But, again, I don't drink coffee that's been pooped by a rodent or with my pinky extended. Drinking vending machine coffee in the paper cups with poker hands must have burnt out my taste buds.

Old TexMex,,,,

Yep, Some of the best coffee I ever drank came out of a Styrofoam cup served by the Red Cross or some Auxiliary Unit at an all night fire ground! In the winter months it was really appreciated. Sometimes even homemade chicken corn noodle soup was served in Styroform bowls! ;)
Would I do it again, drink it again,,,,You bet!

At our house we enjoy Kona Coffee. I personally drink 6 to 8 cups in the morning. My morning starts around 3:00 to 4:00 am everyday. I love coffee.

You need to try Kona Joes coffee. Very expensive but best coffee I have ever had. Trellis grown. Saw a segment on Modern Marvels about Kona Joe's a number of years ago and visited the coffee farm on the Big Island last year and just happen to meet Kona Joe himself. You can order it on line.

I order mine from the Konacoffe.com website and I have been fully satisfied with the quality and flavor of their coffee. They are based on the Big Island. I really love the med-dark Peaberry, but my wallet doesn't like the $50/lb price of it. For Christmas I just ordered their 5 lb Special of their dark roast Extra Fancy Private Reserve, plus a lb of the med-dark Peaberry for special occasions with my wife. ;)
