The signs are up at Walmart

I really wish they'd enforce the No Pets rule. What the heck is it with people taking their dog shopping? Take the dog out in the woods- they love the smells. Someone's flea bitten mutt is not what I want to see in the cereal aisle.

There’s enough smells in Walmart to keep them mutts busy. :)

BIG believer in owner property rights. If I want to open a store that only caters to single, one eyed, left handed, males of french extraction then I have the right to do so. I dont open carry but I also have the right NOT to patronize that store if i so choose.

We can open carry here in Alabama. All that means to me is that I don’t have to worry about printing or the tip of a holster sticking out when I reach for something. Though in all honesty, in this jurisdiction one never had to be terribly careful about concealing their firearm. Log as it was mostly covered you were good to go in most places.

I'm not an open carry advocate at all, but will say that in Texas that sign has zero authority. If and when a 30.07 sign goes up that is a different story. I hardly ever see the open carrying of firearms in Dallas, however last week I did see a rough looking older fellow in a biker "Prospect" cut open carrying a 1911 at a bbq joint... no one seemed to care - myself included - but I did know where he was the entire time I was in there.

Signs, sign, everywhere a sign !!!

"No hay letrero en inglés" ;) :D

.

For those that want to carry with the idee of bringing a surprize to the party....

Don't forget to use you best Gomer Pyle Surprize, Surprize, Surprize and
throw in a Gall-lee & a Shazam er two !!! ;) :D

Iowa is also an open carry state with a large number of CC permits issued but I've never seen anyone doing so & I would probably notice after all my time in LE. Why give up the element of surprise or have some snowflake melt down & cause a scene if you are seen carrying (not that I really care about what a snowflake thinks)

Much ado about nothing.

Given the freedom the choose, I will almost always carry concealed. We have all stated the obvious reasons in other threads. However, I strongly support keeping that freedom of choice intact.

I saw the photo in the OP and first thing that popped into my mind was “6 to midnight. When did they stop being open 24/7 ?”
Can't speak to the situation pictured, but here we have a regular Walmart and their grocery outlet called Walmart Marketplace. The regular store is open 24 hours and the grocery store has the same hours as the OP's photo. No legal open carry here.

Their house, their rules. Don't like it? Find someplace else to get motor oil, a pair of jeans, apples and cat litter at 0300 hours.

Imagine what we could accomplish if we spent less time looking for things to be mad about.

I find it very interesting how these signs are worded. They are not assertive like a prohibition, but it sounds more like a request for cooperation. Granted, I am not a lawyer, but my take is that management doesn't have the authority to do a single thing to anyone that chooses to not comply with their request. As I read the signage, police are helpless in enforcing the policy. An open-carrier couldn't be removed from the premises or charged with trespassing.

I'm sure he could if the store forbade it, which they don't do in this instance. Could also remove you for smoking, which the signage does prohibit. Not forcibly, of course, but call the cops who, if a person refused to comply, could be charged with trespass. Same with for example, political activity within their store, an activity protected (in public places) by Amendment 1. Property rights, their store, and they also have rights.

Never been a fan of OC in an urban enviro so their store their rules. I am fine with that.

A guy was open-carrying in a Sam's Club a couple of years ago. I engaged him in conversation as to what he was carrying. Turned out to be a Glock in .40 caliber. We traded a few polite words about handguns, and he went on his way. I sure as heck did not chastise him for (legal) open carrying in a crowded store, but personally I thought it was a very bad practice. Although his holster had a retention device, it would have been a snap to release...

I was also carrying, but I sure didn't let him (or anyone) know!

I am a staunch supporter of the 2nd no doubt. However, I feel that open carry invites unnecessary attention in most environments. I carry concealed to gain an element of surprise against a would be attacker. Simply my 2 cents.

I've personally ALWAYS subscribed to this myself. But am all for those that want to - just not me.
