The signs are up at Walmart

I was hoping that with Walmart's recent cowardly decision to completely abandon the American CCW holder and firearms enthusiast by no longer selling handgun and certain popular long gun ammo that Walmart would begin to disappear among gun forums as they should but I still see them come up all the time so they must still be a big part of some people's lives.

I guess there must be a lot of places in America where Walmart may be the only nearby option for shopping or the only affordable one or worse yet, the only major employer. I feel sorry for you if this is you or if you live in one of these places, I truly do, no offense intended.

I was not aware of "Walmart's recent cowardly decision to completely abandon the American CCW holder and firearms enthusiast". When did they do this?

I am aware of Walmart's recent generous support of local gun stores by letting the LGS's take over Walmart's former share of handgun and assault rifle ammo, and I applaud Walmart for that. Therefore, I try to give Walmart my business as much as I can.

Wal Mart threads always tickle me. As much as everyone hates Wal Mart, you’d think the place would always be empty.

I live in a nice town, and my Wal Mart is very nice and clean and populated by perfectly nice folks.

When WM stopped selling pistol ammo, I stocked up on whatever they had. .357 Sigs for 12 bucks a box? Stack ‘em all right here.

I can get a no BS oil change for 20 bucks. If I need wipers or an air filter they ask first and if I want it they pull it off the shelf and charge me the store price.

Its their store. If they want to discourage open carry, have at it. Won’t affect me in the slightest. If it does you - shop elsewhere.

I know its currently PC to deride WM and disparage those who shop there. Too bad.

I like Wal Mart, and will probably be there tomorrow.

If'n a business is open to the public.....they ought to expect the public !!!

.

Wally World needs to adopt this signage for sure.....
I'm not easily offended, but, I've got a problem with this kinda behavior.

Go watch the Southpark episode about Walmart- VERY enlightening and cuts to the bone.
The kids were told to open the door to see who exactly was behind Walmart. They did and were staring at their reflection from a mirror. Walmart is us.
Sorry.

I live in one of those areas. There are other grocery stores and Lowes, but Wal-Mart generally has lower prices.

I don’t think everyone hates Walmart. They are just easy to pick on because they the biggest and have an incredible amount of buying power.

Walmart is the epitome of capitalism and the American dream founded by Sam Walton many years ago. A smart country boy, Mr Walton was able to see into the future and know that us Americans wanted more for less. He gave it to us. And now we complain? It’s funny how us Americans always find something to complain about.

Many of us served to preserve the freedom that we enjoy today. Freedom to set your own rules on your property. If we try to avoid businesses that don’t agree with our fundamental beliefs or our second amendment rights, we will be extremely limited in where we spend our money.

A coworker hates Amazon because of their political stance. But he shops at Costco and doesn’t know that the owner of Costco hosted an extremely expensive dinner at his home for our previous president several years ago. You never know. Why worry bout it? The only exception is Dicks sporting goods. They were just plain stupid about it.

The sign? Doesn’t bother me. I respect open carry but don’t do it. And I don’t have to waste my time looking for such signs.

Somewhat related, several years ago here in Vegas we had a nutty couple that murdered 2 police eating lunch in an establishment right across from Wallmart. These 2 then ended up in the Wallmart apparently in the back of the store. At that point it was known that the shooter(s) were the the store.

A legal gun owner evidently in the store pulled his own weapon & evidently at some point in time the female perp walked right by him (seeing him with a gun drawn as he was scanning & walking down an isle) then turned & shot him in the back of the head.

At that time I don't think anyone knew there were 2 of the perps, he had no idea who he was walking past.

Anyway, as to the sign, I get it. It's a tactful compromise & I really don't have a problem with it. I don't go there anyway.

My CCW and I could care less about open carry. Why Billboard that you are armed? Is it an ego thing? "Walk softy and Carry Concealed."

Today on my lunch break I need to run a quick errand to wal mart for a watch battery. No more radio shack in town but I’m sure wal mart will have the battery I need. Sure I could shop any of the various local hardware stores but this particular battery is hard to find and why would I want to pay 50% more? Just because WM won’t sell Pistol ammo and the gun forums say I should be angry? Yeah right! Lol...I’ll keep an eye out for the sign - NOT

I also need to stop by Dicks here soon, I’m hoping they have Favorite running shoes in stock.

WalMart...I like it. Penn and Teller on their Bull### show had an episode about WalMart and the good things about the store. They provide employment for a lot of people who would otherwise be unemployed, for one thing. Penn, in that episode took to task a couple who were making fun of WalMart shoppers as being classless rednecks (they had T-shirts indicating this) saying how dare this couple assume they have a higher moral superiority. Good episode...P&T also did a good episode on gun control, saying it was Bull$$$$...whivh it is.

I was never in a Walmart until my boy turned 18, could shoot at the ranges without adult supervision and had access to everything but my Colt GC, NO.1/458WinMag and BHP.

Son: "Dad, I'm out of 22 ammo."
Dad: "Stop by my house there's 20K or so in the gun room."
Son: "I am at your house."

He lost arrows as well.
Indoors! :D

I am a staunch supporter of the 2nd no doubt. However, I feel that open carry invites unnecessary attention in most environments. I carry concealed to gain an element of surprise against a would be attacker. Simply my 2 cents.
First we will ban open carry , most of them will support that .
Then later we will work on banning concealed carry from the rest .
You ban a little at a time ...they won't notice it .

My Dad, a WWII veteran, told me to never go along with persons who wish to disarm you , the first step in controlling a group is to disarm them ... He saw it first hand in the war . Disarm them first , in the name of their safety .
As long as they take the other guy's gun ...it's OK with me ?
You're not seeing the big picture...open your mind , see how "gun control" happens a little at a time. One day they will come for your "concealed" right to carry .
We should fight for every right , all the time or surely loose them.

Well Walmart is 28 miles away. Local gun shop is about 23. Walmart always had a good selection of 38 and 357. Lgs usually off brand stuff. The local pharmacy sells ammo/guns too but 45 bucks for a box of 38 special seems awfully high to me. I’ll probably just get to reloading more then buying. I have amassed a ton of brass over the years. As much as I hated going to Walmart at least before they had ammo. Oh well. They’re loss. Online ammo sales look better everyday

I am perfectly content with that sign. As a business, they have to balance between what offends their customers. Some are offended when they see a firearm, others are offended if they can't carry. They are telling you is ok to carry, just don't scare off their other customers.

They are not attempting to infringe on the 2nd Amendment, they just ask you exercise it discreetly. I can respect that.

Absolutely true. The gun control zealots know they can't get Congress to pass laws (yet) to restrict our rights with the law. So, they harass and scare big businesses to 'request' that nobody open carry. Once open carry becomes socially impolite, then the gun control zealots will go after concealed carry, and scare businesses into banning all guns in stores 'for the kids and families' who don't feel safe with hidden guns around them.

After the social / cultural narrative has been shifted, then the public attitude will allow for enough votes to get anti-gun politicians elected. Then they will go after us, and we'll wonder how this happened?

They are playing the long game. The lobby to get open carry banned in stores is the first move in the larger game to make guns 'impolite, uncivilized, and to be ashamed and afraid of. Don't play the first step in the game, just because *you* don't *feel* that open carry is a good idea of others who do it.
