The signs are up at Walmart

Great point. I don't care about the guns (ETA - as in they don't bother me at all), but I really wish Walmart (and other places) would post "NO LEGGINGS" signs.

I heard those signs went up right after this...

I am a staunch supporter of the 2nd no doubt. However, I feel that open carry invites unnecessary attention in most environments. I carry concealed to gain an element of surprise against a would be attacker. Simply my 2 cents.

Self fulfilling.

If everyone carried, no one would notice. The solution is not to carry less, it is to carry more.

Aww...no biggie. It says, "Kindly refrain from openly carrying a firearm." Doesn't say anything about concealed carry.

I agree with most of the above, maybe all of it - and that's the most polite request I have ever seen and it is eminently sensible. Open carry in an urban environment, while legal in many places today so I can't just say that I oppose it, is just silly.

Personally, I think open carry in urban areas is tactically unsound. Further, open carry as a political statement doesn't seem to be helping the 2A cause, rather quite the opposite, really. However, dumb idea or not, it should never be illegal to open carry, even indirectly. It is because of these signs and policies that many members of the public think that it's already an illegal practice.

And as to the idea that it's their house and their rules, that's half right. The policies regarding firearms are actually Michael Bloomberg's rules. This is from Walmart's own corporate policy web page:

"Walmart is a charter member of the Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership, organized by Walmart and Everytown for Gun Safety."

Here's the link to the horse's, uh, mouth if you don't want to let your fingers do the walking:

Walmart Policies and Guidelines

There are many reasons I avoid Walmart like a plutonium enema, and this is just one more.

This has been a great idea...combining an open carry thread with a Walmart thread. Saves all that clicking back and forth.

Local WM to me has always seemed to attract folks that enjoy OC there.
From my observations, about a 98% chance the carry gear will be Uncle Mike's black nylon, or for the high-speed/low-drag, some form of plastic/Kydex.

I have made the same observations. Generally the OC folks are carrying the cheap holster with a cheap gun. Rarely do you see a nice Desantis, Galco or the like leather holster with a Sig P220 or nice 1911. Note: I said rarely. Seems to me like they are trying to say "look at me".

I am an incognito kind of guy. I do not want anyone to even know I was there. I have even gone to using cash most of the time so there is no paper trail. Not sure why, but I like it now.

Although, I can see in some cases where OC may be a good idea. I am thinking for the old guy in a wheel chair or someone that just screams victim to a perp. A pistol in a chest rig says "don't mess with me, I am not a victim". I am not at that point in life yet, so I prefer to maintain the element of surprise.

You apparently didn't read my post. It was my company that Walmart was dictating their rules to and mine is a decent paying company based in America, it is not a sweat shop. We actually manufacture the product that Walmart buys from us.

If people want to work as much overtime as they want or if the company occasionally requires it in order to service their customers so we can all keep our jobs then why should an outside entity like Walmart be able to tell them they can't?

And if your main concern is with how people are treated at sweat shops then Walmart is by far one of the biggest offenders.

Tell your company to find another buyer of their goods, or play by their rules, simple.

Actually, Walmart changed your mind for you, you can't by handgun or scary black rifle ammo there anymore so this involves doing some thinking and changing your routine.

Keep shopping there if you want. I choose to support those who will have my back when push comes to shove and who have a vested interest in keeping my business.

Walmart never ran my life and won’t ever. If I shop there it’s because they have something I want.

Free choice. America.

Can’t buy Levi’s jeans because their leadership is anti gun.
Now I can’t go to Walmart? Where am I supposed to buy my wranglers?

For those that think it will only get worse. A few years back, the Waffle Houses around here put up signs on their door saying no firearms. Then there was this attempted robbery where someone tackled the perp and took his gun. Not sure if it was related, but shortly after, I noticed all of the no firearms signs were gone. No where to be seen on their doors now. Me thinks someone realized they had made themselves a soft target by offending the legal carry citizens.

Come on, give her a break. She’s TRYING to take them off.
