The Slippery Slope...

Barrel harmonics, better heat dispersion and I like longer rifle length gas systems for better powder burn out the longer barrel.

Valid points on all and ones I've heard. But for a lightweight combat rifle for under 300 yard shooting it's really a winner.

Wait, I'm supposed to be listening to you not opposing you. Damn.

@blues7, Laphroaig is a favorite of mine, love love love the 15 & 18 year.

The list of changes and add on parts and equipment can become a never ending search for what others or you think are the perfect AR. That said the AR you have has a decent trigger that actually improves with more shooting as the parts break in and smooth out.

My DPMS AR has about 600 rounds through it and the trigger has no slack to take up and brakes cleanly and my S&W Sport II has a stiffer trigger with no take up that I believe it will smooth out in time and more shooting.

The real slippery slope is when you start buying more AR's and then decide to start building them.

Unless it was already mentioned, and I missed it............you'll need a magnifier to put behind the Aimpoint PRO. I stuck a 3x magnifier behind mine, which flips out of the way, for the iron sights to co-witness. It's great for 100 yards and beyond. I use mine a lot more than I ever figured I would. Mine's just a Vortex 3x that was around $199.

A magnifier is worth it's weight in gold... They are a must for us FOG's... I'm g2g out to 100 meters with my Micro T2 and iron sights... At 200 meters and beyond those 4, 5 & 6" gongs are impossible for my old eyes to focus on.

Signed,
The Deck Ape :D

If there's a need for a magnifier inside of 100 yards, and I hope folks will tell me if that's the case, I'll be cancelling the order.

I have no interest in hanging anything else off my rifle beyond the potential addition of the RDS (to the sling and light). So if that's the case, I'll stick with irons. (Maybe upgrade from the MBUS if necessary.)

I'm all ears, fellas...please share your experience.

On another note, I'm glad to see that I've helped to reestablish cordial relations between the Army and Navy. Reminds me of a similar feat I accomplished between the Marines and the rest of the military in a pool hall on the River Walk in San Antonio back in the 90's. We were actually there for an international narcotics investigation but we couldn't let that keep us from buying a few rounds for our men and women in uniform and helping to spread good cheer. :p

Thanks, Max. I don't have the intestinal fortitude required to start taking apart and messing with the internals. (Unless I've had a couple...:D)

Take little bitty pieces apart and hopefully get 'em back together properly again?

I think that puts things into perspective. :p

The first time (with about anything), is always the hardest. ;)

It comes from my youth and growing up in a Farm Family on one side and a Heavy Construction Family on the other. I learned at a young age just about everything can be fixed, rebuilt or cobbled back together just enough to get you home or finish the job at hand. Comes in handy when you're out in the middle of nowhere (that was well before the internet and cell phone days).

When I was in the Army, my CO called it Field Expediency. :)

LaRue sells the Aimpoint 3x magnifier with their QD pivot mount. Only $660. That's a good combo deal with the LaRue mount. Better hurry while still in stock.

I hear ya, Max, and envy the skills.

I grew up pretty far from farms but I've always been reasonably resourceful in terms of coming up with a solution when faced with a fix. (Of course, it was either that or give in to it. I'm not much for that as I strongly suspect you're not.)

In this case, however, I often feel it's the better part of valor to leave well enough alone, (and let sleeping dogs lie), before I mess up a perfectly good rifle when there was no need. :D

Ain't gonna happen. I may not be a Tar Heel by birth but when I make a decision I stick to it. (Well, usually...)

You know, you Tennesseans have a mean streak. You should be nicer to your kinfolk on the other side of the divide. :p

I think you'll very much enjoy using a 1x red dot. For my aging eyes it's the only way to go. I shoot 12in steel offhand at 200 yds. Good enough for me.

About magnifiers.... some guys find a use for them a swear by em. That said, I think a lot of magnifiers end up in the parts box.

As far the PRO and a magnifier... The PRO is a pretty big piece of hardware to begin with. Adding a magnifier would be like this.

No worries. :) I'm an old school combat vet, "lightweight" to me is like saying close enough to make it look good and it "should" get me by in the short run. A lightweight "combat rifle" for shooting under 300 yards to me (although better than nothing), is nothing more than a range toy if it won't keep them all in the black at 300 yards.

Thanks, Phil. I can handle the bit of added weight even if it's not ideal.
(The TS started out as a pretty light rifle to begin with.)
What I can't abide is another piece of equipment to hang on the rifle.

Would you otherwise estimate the view and function obtained with the PRO to reasonably approximate that of your Micro?

Thank You for that first part.

For the second part, I also agree. :) "Let sleeping dogs lie" or better yet. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. ;)

Nice rifle Phil (I kept mine all black and stuck with the BUIS). But I'm a bit partial to my DD's. :) One thing about having sooo many kids, none dress alike, so it's hard to like just one when they are all special in their own ways. :)

Adding a Bipod (like in your photo), is "almost" a must. ;)

Blues,

You should be g2g out to 100 without magnification...

The only problem I have beyond 100 is keeping up with these youngsters shooting 4", 5" and 6" targets... Put an 18" silhouette or 10" gong up and I'll smoke em. Those little gongs, they smoke me... Circle of life and all that jazz.

As far as reconciling the Army and Navy... Good luck with that... Most of you CSM's take those Army/Navy games way toooooooooooo serious.

Back to lurking and knuckle dragging... Heading to the range.
