Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it

Maybe next time we train men to defend their country we don't.
We just train the women.

That’s what we did very successfully with the Kurds to have them fight ISIS … and then abandoned them in 2019.

Nobody here got terribly upset about that, probably because it was a different president who betrayed them.

They’re still fighting, but are increasingly getting squeezed between Islamist militias and Turkish forces.

Were you upset about it?

I agree that those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it, to a point.

Remember, the victors write the history and occasionally it has little resemblance to what actually happened.

Makes me pretty upset to see the Taliban carry U.S. weapons and driving around in our Humvees. I realize that a lot was probably secured from AF defense forces that we tried to train up. That is taxpayer money flushed down the toilet.

Reminds me of a line from "Platoon" when Sgt Elias tells the troops to police up ammo, frags, and weapons after a firefight. "Don't leave anything for the dinks" The U.S. SURe left a lot for the dinks.

Fortunately a lot will be useless after awhile w/o maintenance.

Do NOT be ashamed to be a American or to wear or have worn the uniform.

No!

I am not ashamed- I am deeply ashamed of our current so called "leaders" that are running the current idiotic on going retreat from Afghanistan FOR.

Trusting the slave running Taliban

Getting American GI's killed due to a lack of planning, knowledge and basic security concepts

Giving them billions in advanced weapons and tech which are on the way to China and Moscow right now.

Giving the Taliban lists of their enemies to hunt down

Giving- leaving behind for the Taliban advanced biometrics readers

The beyond belief stupid desertion of Bagram Air Force base in the middle 0f the night. Even a E-1 of any branch would know better than that.

Pulling out the troops before civilians and then sending them back in. Even a E-1 would know better than that.

Leaving the Taliban millions if not billions in cash.

Fouled up beyond all repair!

And We still have only the news medias take on this failure and We know whose side they are on.

With respect, sir...I don't see a pattern in the news coverage of this mess. In fact...

The very same people who were praising the independence of the free press a couple of years ago are whining today about the press nitpicking and being unfair. And the same people who were ranting about fake news a couple of years ago are praising those same news sources today for their hard-hitting reporting!

We're living in a very strange world! :)

Shame on you.

"Two were women, Marine Corps Sgt. Nicole L. Gee, 23, of Sacramento, California, and Marine Corps Sgt. Johanny Rosario Pichardo, 25, of Lawrence, Massachusetts."

I think he’s saying that we should have trained the women to fight instead of the Afghan men. Knowing what was coming, they probably would have fought to the death to prevent it. Not so much the men.

Exactly what history are we supposed to learn from? It seems to be rewritten on a daily basis.

War is about death, destruction and chaos. It about pounding your enemy into submission without mercy. There are no rules, only victory. If you can't accept that, then don't do it.

Good point, I vote for not doing it in 90+% of the cases.

Having spent several years of my life there, it was no surprise in the outcome. Ghost soldiers on the payroll, vast corruption and incompetence did not encourage the Afghan military.
I have said it before, we could of stayed a thousand years and not changed the outcome. People of a nation have to stand for themselves. Sadly, all the bad guys have all of our equipment now.

What was originally a righteous mission, to get the planners of the 9/11 attacks, changed into a giant money funnel to the belt way bandits, who mislead us for nearly twenty years telling us what a great success we were having. The money funneling machine was lubricated with the blood of our young.
